The catalinbread SFT seems to get a lot of love too, but i've not tried...
OliverBlackman
this is going to sound stupid as im sure noel redding most likely just had loads of gain on his amp but the crispy tone in songs like wait until tommorow is kinda what i was after... hope that helps? mep
What about the 2 Ashdown pedals. The Drive Plus or the James LoMenzo Hyper Drive. I hear they are good, and cheap. Jerry_B
Boss Heavy Metal HM-2. You can get some very sharp sounding distortion out of it.

Mog
Ibanez PD-7. About £60ish I think. Great pedal.

Great pedal.[/quote] Yeah, a very versatile pedal... distortion, overdrive & even clean boost, which I find really useful... Bit noisy though... defo a keeper for me... For a singing sweet tone, my preference is an old modded colorsound tonebender I used to own ..a very 'musical' fuzz After experimenting with some modern options... Blowtorch etc, I'm gunna invest in a colorsound bass fuzz... to reclaim that sound I had a long while back... it's all very personal this game though.... my advice would be to try out as much as possible..... It's easier to find what you don't like!
thisnameistaken
TBH I think the MXR Blowtorch is generally a safe bet. All those tone options mean you can usually be heard regardless of what your guitarist(s) do with their sound. Downside is 18v power of course, but it's worth the hassle if you use distortion a lot. Kiwi
I'm not into using distortion at all, but I tried a Danelectro FAB tone distortion pedal and it was really nice. Raw, crisp and no mush.

Dood
Give your ODB-3 a new lease of life by putting an EQ pedal after it, to shape and tame some of that drive. Try cutting the treble and boosting mids and lows for a thicker distortion.

chriswilliams666
Hey there. I love the GK Distortion in my amp. You can here it used on the intro to this Jam Session with Duff Mckagan - He is using the GK2001RB which has the same distortion as there Diesel Dawg Pedal, and Backline Amps. He has also said that he has used the MXR M-80 and Z-Vex Wooly Mammoth in the studio. Edited March 23, 2010 by chriswilliams666
