I put speaker top hat in bottom of guitar amp, put it on a speaker stand and bob's your uncle. Height of amp can be anywhere from you're waist to above your head.

The amp we use is a Marshall AS50d In some venues when using it with mic & guitar we have had it just above head height, amazing difference in being able to hear yourself & others hearing us clearly.

In Oz beer comes in cartons, but we have milk crates. I've played on many a stage made of plywood sheeting over a dozen milk crates.

Hardware stores sell collapsible crates, the height is about 18 inches, roughly. they stack as well I think.
