sk8
I've got a Mag 2x10 combo which i originally thought to add a 15 to but now i'm wondering whether to add another 2x10. What would i lose gain by adding another 2x10 over the 1x15? Thanks in advance
rodl2005
I'd add either a 1 x 15-as this adds big bottom-ask Spinal Tap. To the 2x10's crisp tops. Or a 1x12'' or a 2x12" I usually use a 1x12" with a 2x10 & they compliment eaCH OTHER NICELY -whoops- adding another 210 is OK also-just depends on what YOU like best. I'd go 12's & 2 of 'em if $$$ wasn't a problem! They give a nice bottom end, while not being too boomy as 15's can sometimes be-they sometimes get 'in the way' of a F.O.H. mix. In saying thAT I DO really like using my 1x15" & with the 2x10 equally so! Yhey're just different-not better/worse-up to each & every one of us!-Go out & try as many different combinations as possible.
warwickhunt
Not sure why people assume that a 15" will give more 'bottom end' than 2x10" the ability to reproduce low end with any conviction is different for every single speaker and manufacturer. I've owned 2x10's that have far more bottom end than 15's that I've owned. You also have to consider that when you EQ you are EQing for the speaker in your combo so using a different size speaker as an extension will be a compromise. I'd vote for keeping to all 10's but it's just an opinion!
EBS_freak
Another vote here for a 2x10. It keeps everything tight and puncy - as stated, it's all personal preference at the end of the day though. No doubt alex will be along shortly to share his knowledge about speaker sensitivity/response etc...
Jean-Luc Pickguard
I think you can't go wrong with either choice. I used to have a MAG300 head with MAG210 & MAG115 cabs. I preferred the tone using both cabs over either single cabs, even when playing at the same volume.
MacDaddy
I'm running a 2x10 on top and 2x12 below. Awesome.
MB1
MB1. I like 10s, another 2x10 for me please!
Machines
If/when i get another cab to go with my MAG210 it's likely to be a MAG115..
bass_ferret
All the guru's will say another 2x10. Mixing different sized speakers causes comb filtering IIRC, or was the having horizonal speakers. 2x2x10's stcked vertically is the best but thats a bit difficult when using a combo. sk8
if i added another 2x10 i was going to put the combo on its side anyhoo.

Lfalex v1.1
Is a 4x10 out of the question? I've used a 2x10 and 4x10 together a lot. Works well for me. They're a Trace 1048h and 2103h BTW... I do have a 1x15 (1153) so I'm covered whatever I want to do! (Anyone got a 1518 laying around- I'll have a full set then!!)
fusionbassist1
i always go for a 15" to have the ground contact of a big speaker, bit of 'wmph'. Gives me a balanced tone between both cabs. Nice having a tall rig i think aswell so there's some sound near your ears. But as a rule of thumb, don't take other people's opinions too much for granted, go try stuff out, see what's good for you.
