Cat Burrito
Interesting one this, bordering on mildly annoying. I own a 3/4 upright which is chinese. Very happy with it but the bridge was a bit weak so I ordered a new one. I got a 3/4 size one and then realised the inside of my bass is marked as 4/4. It really isn't but that's what it says. Anyhow the new bridge is too small & mine is obviously a 3/4 bass with a 4/4 bridge. Is this common or was mine a factory cock-up?
jdstrings
Get thee to a luthier who will asses your bass and fit a suitable bridge! Bridges come in many many different sizes and shapes -I keep a stock of about 20 different bass bridges but even then occasionally a bass turns up which none of them are quite right for and I have to order another..... CoolCat
....time for the old measuring tape.... How is the new bridge to small? Height or foot spread? Some instructions below to help identify the correct size for your bass. http://www.gollihurmusic.com/product/1158-...BLE_BRIDGE.html If is short uncut (you know you have to trim and fit the bridge right?) you may have the correct standard size but you fingerboard may be at the incorrect angle with the 3/4 size body(it is 3/4 right?). If you are handy with tools you can fit some aluminium adjusters (just check the web how to) to adjust the height - if the foot spread is correct. If ebay cannot help (there are ok-ish chinese bridges there) then take it to a pro for bridge work pay and forget about it....
