phobucket
Hi all, Been browsing for a while, thought I'd join in the fun. Very envious of all you Status and Wal players. They are very hard to come by on this side of the pond. Best, Ben

skankdelvar
Hi Ben and welcome Glad to see you have a suitably iconic British avatar! And maybe someone here might be interested in trading a wal or a status for something on your side of the pond Hope you enjoy the forum. phobucket
Thanks all. The missus and I are big 80s/90s Brit TV fans (Lovejoy, Wooster and Jeeves, Poirot, Campion); if anyone has recommendations for others we'd be happy to Netflix them. Yeah, I'm just looking for an excuse to hop on a plane to England for a bass trade... And to completely derail my own introduction thread: if someone says he is from Shetland, he means the island and not some area of London, right? Seems like people on this board would probably know Edited March 24, 2010 by phobucket

I watched so much Jeeves and Wooster not so long back I was going around saying things like "what's a chap supposed to do?" and lots of "bally people". And yes, Shetland is just off Scotland. We've been running around here saying "What ho" and "Rah di rah di rah di rah, sir?" and singing 47 Ginger headed sailors. We just finished the last Lovejoy disc (wasn't the same without Eric) and are a bit stumped for what to watch next.
FlatEric
Hi. Nice to hear from you. I have a good friend in Philadephia, been there a couple of times - great place. I share your taste in good British TV. Nice one.

You may seriously struggle with the accent though haha!
mic mac moe
Welcome friend. You should take a peek at Minder-classic
obbm
Welcome. How about early Morse?
phobucket
Thanks all for the recommendations. I haven't heard of any of them, but I'll check them out. Been to the UK once to visit some friends who went to LIPA..swung up to Scotland to visit the Pass of Killiecrankie and then down to London for a couple of days before heading home. Loved it, but didn't get to spend nearly enough time there. When I worked in the orchestra on cruise ship in the late 90s, my friend was from the Welsh border just south of Liverpool. It took months for most people to be able to understand him. He soon realized he could get away with saying just about anything to just about anyone...funny guy. Anyway, by comparison, the Scottish accent doesn't seem that bad.
xilddx
Hello mate. You really have to check out Fawlty Towers and Rising Damp if you haven't already. Both are genius writing and performance.
cameltoe
Cracker! You have to watch Cracker! Brilliant. I'm not sure how many they made (sure someone on here will know) but they were feature-length TV mini-series with Robbie Coltrane (AKA Hagred off of Harry Potter) during the '90's. Anyway, welcome to BC.
phobucket
Haven't been able to find Cracker, but checked out Minder and Rising Damp. Good stuff. Thank you. Also been watching the first season of Hustle.
Musky
If you're watching sit-coms as well as dramas you should check out Only Fools and Horses. It was hugely popular and is something of a British institution. And +1 for Fawlty Towers if you haven't seen it already.
