Conan
Again, having used both Sounds Live (which is actually based here in Newcastle!) and Strings Direct regularly, I would unhesitatingly recommend both!!
Kohpnyn
+1 on Stringsdirect. Can't say i've ever used soundslive, for guitars etc I normally use http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com Everything i've bought has been well set up and arrived in a timely manner. Very good prices as well.
OldGit
Three really good real shops who also sell bass things via the internet: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/ http://www.bassmerchant.com/ http://www.thebassgallery.com/

Fantastic service, good prices and a great supply of stock
Yep, just got my SBMM Ray34 from them. Cheapest i could find on line and it arrived in very quickly. Also another vote for stringsdirect. I get all my strings and bit form them and i always get them the following day. I used to really rate Thomanns but due to the exchange rate (i think) they are quite pricey now, although they off very good service. Probably the best i have had on line. I've ordered a fair amount of stuff though, and the only problem i've ever had was a danelectro guitar took about 2 days more to arrive when it was snowing last year. Obviously if they've got a reputation for being terrible, feel free to ignore my recommendation. I'm only speaking from personal experience. dougal
The ones I use regularly: bassdirect dv247.com stringsdirect.co.uk Thomann (but as pointed out, the exchange rate isn't in our favour at the moment)

I've only used Gear4Music for small inexpensive items but never had any complaints.
