All I can really say about Ross Valory`s effects can be summed up by

I seem to recall that he used a Steinberger on the escape album...

Ovation Magnum (with a bit of chorus).
That's what he was using live around the time of the Escape album.
Of course, in the studio it could have been anything........

(There are some lovely bass parts on Escape - it's one of my all-time favourite play-along albums).

He does now..... but he always used to set his bass up with standard strings/tuning....

On this track it's probably either a Peavey T-40, a Steinberger XL or more likely an Ovation Magnum he is playing.... through a Chorus pedal with plenty of mids in his EQ...
