Hi all,

I'm not sure whats triggered this, but I thought it time I attempted to live the dream, and try and get hold of what i've lustred after since I started playing the bass! I'd be so appreciative of someone being able to help me here!

I'm after getting hold of a Ken Smith (USA) 5 or more string bass. Prefferably a 6 string!Open to different models to be honest.

I'm putting up two basses that are really special to me, and I can't believe i'm even thinking of selling. I get very attached to things, especially the Overwater, but I have wanted a Smith for as long as I can remember!!

So potentially for sale, or ideally for trade/p.ex are..

Status S2 Classic Headless 6 string. Graphite neck, cocobolo top, walnut/mahogany body, gold hardware.

Overwater Progress Elite 7 string. AAAAA Flamed ash and maple, maple neck, gold hardware.

NOW BOTH SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks so much!

Very best wishes,

Matt :)

I don't know how long this thread will remain open, as I really don't want to be moving on these basses, and have only just bought the Status, but needs must!!

Hi Matt, Two lovely basses you have there,
It seems we share the same taste in basses Dude (wals & smiths) Unfortunately i had to sell my smith as i was financialy Fubard, but i will have another one day,
Have you tried sighning on to kens forum & trying a trade there? you never know :)

As for 6 string wals ive only ever seen one & that belonged to Oliver (Spirit chaser) on here & i missed out big time when he sold it so i have placed an order with Paul herman for a new 6 string fretless, hopefully with me by mid summer.

I'm always looking out for smiths & if i see anything around i'll let ya know,

Al

Thanks so much for all the comments guys! I'll get some more pics taken of the Status, its a stunning stunning bass, honestly just awesome! I'm using it at work currently, and it is superb! Half of me makes me want to keep it, however, I need to prioritise, and know what i'm after!

I've already had first dibs taken on the Status! Neither are going anywhere until i've got a deal setup with a Smith however! I'll keep hunting around! I have been on Kens forum for ages, wish I had the bass to go with it!! Got feelers around, hopefully something will come up!!

Hey Al! Hope you're well! Yeah, although i'm definitely after a Smith to be honest. Its that sound, i've been listening to a few of Al Turners tracks, will buy his album sometime. Great sound!! And other stuff, the old Patitucci's. I've got a selection of Melvin Davis' albums too, just awesome! Btw, Melvin is a real gent, a fantastic guy to be in touch with!

Really appreciate everyones help, if anyone can help me locate a bass. I've got the Status potentially sold, just need to work on the Overwater if anyones interested?

Very best wishes!

Hi Matt

Brian Barret at The Low End in the US has an ultra-rare Smith BMT Elite fretted 6 for sale at the moment.

These are the best Smiths of all IMO (I used to own one, as well as numerous other BSRs). I know it would mean buying sight unseen from the US, but I'd be astonished if it was anything less than incredible, and expensive. :)

Cheers

Hey Gareth!

Thanks for the heads up! I'll go and check that one out now... Afraid my budget is gonna be £2-2500ish! At a push! Once i've sold both basses!

Thanks again mate, really appreciate all the help! Feel its going to take a lot of help to find the right bass...at the right price!!

Best wishes,

Matt :)

Hey Matt, it's a pleasure.

Brian is well worth contacting anyway, even if that one is too expensive. He loves Smiths and gets used ones in on a regular basis.

Cheers

Yeah, one day..although if I have that sorta money to spend on a bass, i'd be calling Vin Fodera!!!

Very nice, would love one!

Anyone, anyone interested in the Overwater 7?

Cheers! Matt

Whoahh, that's rather special!! One more string and were talking!! How much roughly would something like that be setting me back?

Still open to offers on the Overwater, however I've seen another British bass that's got me!! To be honest, I can't rwally bare to part with it, its such a special bass... If I don't get any tempting offers, its going to stay with me! I really think a lot of it!!!!!!!

Hmmm time for some thinking, seen something pretty special!!

Matt, you know the drill.... if you have to ask, you probably can't afford it :)

Matt, check out there site, you'll even get it quicker than a Fodera (not knocking Fodera)... If your so attached to your 2 basses ya might aswell keep them and start saving for a Smith!
