EdwardHimself Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Basically my old AKAI hifi unit i think has pretty well had it so i was thinking of getting a power amplifier unit to power my speakers for now, then i can get some new ones at some other point. Which ones are any good? I was thinking about getting this maybe: http://www.thomann.de/gb/tamp_s100.htm dunno if it's any good though. Really i'm looking for anything for between £100-150 and with probably no more than 100w pc @ 8 ohm. Any help? Thks EH Quote
The Funk Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Nothing wrong with just using a hi-fi stereo amp. It won't give you XLR ins/outs but you can still find ways of hooking it all up. Another alternative is powered monitors. Quote

The Funk Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 I quite like the cheap Samson studio bits n' bobs. They have the Samson Servo 200 (100W a side @ 4ohms), around £125-130. Not really happy with their customer service. If i was going to go down the active monitor route i was thinking of getting something like these: http://www.thomann.de/gb/alesis_m1_aktiv_monitor_mk_ii.htm which i know are more expensive then i said i had but if i'm getting speakers as well then i want them to be good quality, if that makes sense? Are you going to be mixing tracks? Quote

s1ater Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 If your going to be mixing then its probably worth getting the mk1's as they have a pretty flat frequency response and wont colour the sound, therefore you get a truer representation of the sound. Hifi speakers are generally biased towards certain frequencies to make the music sound nicer to the ear. Quote
