tauzero
I've just found an article on the subject - an interview with Chris May about the Aspiration series. But dammit, they don't exist without pictures...
Thanks for posting that, I have been keeping and eye out for developments on these new guitars. The prototypes in the pictures look very good, very overwater and they dont have that nasty headstock that the previous prototypes had. That PJ Jazz still looks excellent, I am praying there is going to be a 5 string Jazz coming.
7string
I have to agree with the other and say that the proto basses look a bit bland. If these basses were label;led as Tanglewood and didn't have the Overwater association would anyone give them a second glance?? Having the big name gives the basses a sense of expectation, without out that they're regular 'cookie cutter' basses. No doubt this will the expand the Overwater brand, but it have been nice to see a bolder step.

ead
I used the contact us button on the Tanglewood website this week to enquire as to the progress of the project and received the following (having removed a bit of personal info) I can assure you your anticipation is certainly matched here at Tanglewood. Last month Chris personally flew to Asia and signed off every part of the manufacturing project. He fully approved the first delivery of these fabulous instruments which were in the finishing stages of production when he got there. We are now in the hands of freight forwarders ! There is no possibilty of a pre Xmas delivery into shops, but we anticipate mid January, so not long to go ! We liken them to a fine wine..they've taken a while to produce but the wait will certainly be worth it ! Thank you so much for your enthusiasm, kind words and patience ! I've copied Chris May personally in on your mail, he'll be pleased his painstaking efforts on this project are appreciated ! Regards Sharon Hunt Company Secretary Tanglewood Guitars Sounds promising I think; now looking forward to some trying out in the new year. I've asked for some pics and will post if I receive anything.

I've re-juvenated this thread cos I've just read me bass mag where they give a positive review of one of these (one of the nasty pointy ones that 'clever' bass players might buy) and interview Mr May - but I can't find anybody stocking them yet - plus the Overwater website is awful - never updated - and has no info at all on these. It's a shame 'cos I WANT ONE. SOON. If anybody's interested: A passive 35" P/J Jazz 5 with a nice warm sunburst and torty plate. For under £500 - which seems to be where they are pitched. I've long been looking for something answering that general description to sit next to my black DJ5 - my 55-02 isn't cutting it but don't want to pay over a grand for a new Skyline Lakland when they no longer have Dan Lakin at the helm and are making them in a different country that I'm not sure has proven itself as a manufacturing community yet as S Korea has. (Sorry -perhaps it's just me but some Hyundais/Kias actually look pretty good now whereas Protons still look like a rough rebuilt Mitsubishi from 1992). So hope there's some news from Overwater or Tanglewood soon - I can't be the only one who's really interested at the price point they're talking about. BassBus
Just been looking through the same articles and the new Artist and Deluxe basses look gorgeous. A nice subtle variation on the Overwater body shape. Just right!

The website is updated as and when news is available. This is not always easy to do as the team is rather small and commited to looking after all customers old and new, which is a full time job in itself. All projects are documented and a new gallery is being prepared. The new basses have only just arrived in the UK and will be sent out to dealers soon. Details of stockists are being finalised and will be updated, along with a new section on the website within the next week. If you have any questions about the new Aspiration series or other OW products please do get in touch. BottomEndian
Chris May is scheduled to attend the Moffat Bass Bash next weekend, and is hopefully going to be bringing some of these basses along, so with a bit of luck one (or more) of us will be able to have a fiddle and post some opinions. Unless someone gets their hands on one in a shop first, of course.
Rich
Oh hells bells... a 5-string PJ like that one, in the same candyapple red, would be enough to see my Status up for sale...

Hope I didn't sound too disparaging there- but the website thing has been frustrating me for ages 'cos there never seem to be updated j's on there (which is kinda my thing) and I seem to get more info on Overwater stuff looking at Bassdirect and Promenade's sites (which have some stunning j/p overwater porn on them btw!) - have to say that's a faultless and unimpeachable excuse tho. In an ideal world would love to commission a custom pj but can't really justify a £2k+ instrument despite being a working player on the function circuit - but this new series looks fantastic and very much what someone like me has been waiting for. Genuinely v v interested. Unless I tragically lose a limb in a hideous 'jumping up and down with excitement'-based accident, I'll keep an eye out for updates and will be in touch when there's some stock to look at. Meanwhile I'm off to spring me oldest Lakland from the band van, tart it up, and get it on ebay. cheers!

gafbass02
While were talking tanglewood I thought I'd randomly post this. It's a 'bassmaster funk' I think made by tanglewood. I've changed the hardware for gold and added the adhesive 'inlays' but it's an awesome bass. I've kept it for about 15 years. As you were. 'Brochure'!? Hello?! They're not even on the website yet!?! I thought I was the arch luddite but hats off to them. And where can one find this brochure of legend foretold? Chris May also said that he would be setting up the first couple of batches himself to make sure things were coming through in correct fettle. This sounds very promising indeed! NJE
Sent an email to Tanglewood and got a very nice and extremely quick reply from their customer services team (nice one Tanglewood). Apparently the basses ship to shops the week beginning 21st Feb and one of the signed up dealers to receive a first lot is about a 10 minute walk from me in Cheltenham....OH YES!!!!
