I've played and owned a fair few basses in my lifetime. I've always loved Jazz basses but have only recently taken the plunge and bought a 79.

Best purchase ever. It does everything.

Anyone else agree?

So what you're saying is that its your favourite bass?

I like mine well enough but all the jazz basses I've ever played sound very mid scooped to me. Makes hearing them difficult on stage and I can't feel them as well when I play. So I'd never make one my main bass.

Agreed I am selling my 73 Jazz for this very reason. P-basses all the way for me. Want a 73 to go with your 79 Pete?

Sorry mate, can't afford. :)

I've been really wanting a Fender Jazz recently - just as I thought my GAS was cured. I'll probably always be a P-bass player but I do like upright basses too. It's the beauty of bass - you can have more than one.

Yeah i do Pete..I am having a few problems with hearing mine well thoght of late..think it either the Nordstrands (that are light on the bottom end) or the 212 Aguilar...i want a Audere in it..think this will solve the problem..need punch and power that i can control..

is the jazz that good Pete? Whgere is the porn by the way??

Yep... Love the Jazz. They need to be hot though with a decent pre, IMV.

It just takes that big hole out of the equation...
Jazzes and SWR are quite a combination, IMO

I put some dirty wizzards in my favourite jazz and everyone thinks Im playing a Rickenbaker.

Top Bombing ... as they say in old West Bromwich Town. :)

Still love my old "boring as a fart" US bog standard 90's Jazz though

Nah, don't like these modern pretenders. :snob:

I've never liked the sound or the look of them. Give me a good Precision any day of the week. I am totally in love with mine

Oh how times change when I wanted active everything with at least 5 strings, more controls than the Hubble space telescope and and would change the strings once a month. I've just changed mine a few days ago - that should do me until autumn :)

I only wish I could buy as many drum kits as I can basses. At one point I had two kits set up but now I'm back to one as I was taking up too much space :)

However, I can fit 100 Guitars in my space easily  It's just the money that's the problem though...

Might be running against the grain here, but despite how much I want to like Jazz basses, every single one I've played has been pants. Something about the tone seems lacking- only Jazz I've heard come close to remedying this problem had a J-retro and then I realised the reason I liked the tone was because it was getting progressively more like a Precision.
Best bass ever doesn't exist :)

I quite fancy a late 70's Fender. I keep seeing lots of natural finish 78-ish Precisions and thinking, yes. But the thing is I'd never play it live, so there's no point.

As for the Jazz, yes I think it's not only Fender's most convincing product, but also a world beater. As a for instance, just look at all of the low and high-end imitations, surely the best form of flattery!

You're definitely onto something here, Pete. :)
