Hi there everyone, i've been playing bass for just over 2 1/2 years now, some of my gear is excellent (in my personal opinion) some of it however is not so brilliant.
My bass: Westfield B1000 -isn't actually that bad a bass considering it only cost me £80 brand new, my dad has promised to get me a yamaha RBX374 for christmas though which should be a good piece of kit.-
My Amp: I currently have a Roland Cube CB-100 but i want to get a tracy elliot cab as an addition and use them in conjuntion which should be loud enough for when I perform live :)
Strap: this is when you say yeah right, but no, my strap is one of my best pieces of gear, it's by a small company in the uk and is padded and elasticated at one end to help make playing for comfortable.
Look forward to talking to everyone and getting to learn and share techniques etc.

the strap was actually a christmas pressie from my sister, I've seen the website before but can't recall the name and one thing the company hasn't thought of is writing their name on the strap!!! If i find out, and i will ... eventually you'll be the first to know.

here's a design close to but not the same as my strap the concept is the same but my elasticated part is in a different place and the build quality might be slightly higher, the company mine was from also did heavy weight distributing full leather strap as well whivch the website linked doesn't. padded strap similar to mine but not quite

thank you, i can rest in the knowledge that the cube was £300 well spent, one thing that does annoy me however is even though this amp is excelent, i still get drowned out when performing live!
I only perform small gigs at the moment but my band is planning to get out to bigger ones soon (might be doing dorking halls at some point) and i really want to use the excellent sound of my cube, yes i know it's just a really fancy practice amp but i want to use it on stage and show off it's fancyiness, if i got a cheap(ish) cab around 100w or something and hooked it up to the roland (through the line out on the back) would i get the excellent sound quality the cube produces out of the cab or not?

Welcome!

Ah yes the much overlooked importance of a good strap
May be one of the comfort strapps as on here

As per your extension cab question, that's best posed over on the amps and cabs forum in a separate thread -
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=5

Call it "cube extension cab" or "cube plus powered speaker" or something like that so people know if they want to open the thread or not.

You'll get more answers there as this thread is an intro one ..
Cheers

Oh and the first point is that a cab with just a speaker in it (as opposed to an "active" or "powered" cab which also has an amplifier in it ) will need to be plugged into an extention speaker socket rather than a line out socket and need to have an appropriate ohmage rating (like 4 ohm or 8 ohm) depending on the technical spec of your Cube.

Line out is for sending a signal to an amplifier, such as a second bass combo ... Maybe you need to do that...

is an extension speaker socket the three pronged one which says balanced out on the back of my amp? (technical talk here :)) oh! maybe its the socket on the back that says {external speaker 8 ohm lol!} either way it said in the instruction manual somewhere that it could be used as a head to drive cabs i'll just have to re-read it

It's the external speaker socket. "Balanced out" is to plug your amp into a mixing desk, say to use it through the PA at larger gigs. This is an option depending on your PA.

So ... you'll need an 8 ohm speaker cab then :). You will also need a speaker lead. They are not the same as guitar leads, even though they have a mono jack plug on the end.

Certainly using an extension cab will increase your overall volume as you will be shifting more air.. and some amps actually increase their output wattage when attached to the right extention speaker. Eg my Mark Bass LMK. "OUTPUT POWER 300W RMS @ 8 ohm, 500W RMS @ 4 ohm"

Best to pose the question over on the other bit of the forum though as people will know your Cube better and will be able to advise better.
