acidbass
Yeah I love playing the bassline in I'm A Believer - it's probably my favourite song out of my band's set! Busy but melodic!
OldGit
Yeah they had some great people on their records. I did have a laff recently though with the campaign to get the Monkees into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Sign here if you want to help three actors and a fairly good guitarist miming to covers to devalue the sacred portals http://www.petitiononline.com/Kretch07/petition.html

I knew that Larry "the mole" Taylor from Canned Heat played on some tracks but didn`t realise he played on that many tracks. Intresting info WOT. Kirky
I know Larry Taylor's work with Tom Waits. Didn't realise he was with Canned Heat. Great player. Monkees had the of session guys on their records.
Sean
I thought it was all Carol Kaye and Joe Osbourne. interesting stuff. What's really interesting is how much they actually did themselves, especially Peter Tork.

Thanks for the reminder. I remember seeing him live at the time. Knew the name rang a bell. I have a Mayall track somewhere with Larry Taylor and another bass player doing a duel/duet .. EG Rio Nice bass line. I thought Micky and Davy were good singers for the Monkees stuff but hardly Hall of Fame material
EssentialTension
Steven Stills auditioned for the Monkees but got rejected.

I saw that in the early days of MTV, on a night when I was ... erm ... using the music for flight (if you get my drift) and I damned near wet myself laughing. Course, I was younger then.
