Mike Walsh now famed for his Purple Chilli cabs is building me a nice new 5 string bass

My wood

I agree - it does look good. I havent seen Mike since the bass merchant moved. Perhaps I should call in.... maybe one day I will order a funkmeister.

What are those pickups? Is he still doing the aeros?

Thought i should post a spec

5 string zoot in Swamp Ash
Angle Headstock maple Neck with Birdseye Maple Board
two Bart Soap Bars each with a 3 way switch for Series, Parallel and Series Parallel
Master Vol and Pup blend
low pass filter switch
Iceni John East 2 band active EQ
String thru Iceni Bridge
35" scale
Satin Finish

Nice one Mike.
The grain pattern has worked out perfect - like an artists impression of how it should be. :)
Not being a big fan of Barts myself I might have been tempted to go with Nordys. I think they are the same dimensions so it might be worth playing about with later.

I used to feel the same… Bart's never used to do it for me, BUT, with the right wood choice and craftsmanship they just seem to work. They always felt lacking something, but when a set of Bart CB's wen't in my Roscoe… wow! The whole thing came alive. Maybe they just suit the fretless tone great, but I definitely have a new found respect for them!

I find them a bit dark but like I say maybe that's just me.
