Soloshchenko
You're right to avoid building a neck! Check out Warmoth. I built a guitar with their parts and it's a beautiful thing to play. In fact a mate of mine recently played it, went home and ordered himself a neck and body off there as well so they get the thumbs up from me (and him hopefully when his is finished). The quality of their woods is fantastic and if you're finishing it yourself they don't cost the earth. Good luck with the project mate. Al Heeley
warmoth necks are excellent but expensive. Allparts I think are overpriced. Go for a cheaper neck if axes r us have any in, esp if its your first build. JB pups - go for Wizard pickups http://www.wizardpickups.co.uk/shop.asp?category=Bass or if you want budget ones to try, get some GFS pickups off the internet. Dom in Dorset
I know you said not ebay but I've used these guys a couple of times and have nothing but praise for them: http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/CH-GUITARS__W0QQ_armrsZ1 What initialy got me interested is that they give plenty of measurements of all their necks etc. I had two jazz necks from them , they don't seem to have many necks at the moment, might be worth asking. waldemar
Yeah, Warmoth are very good. I bought a P body off 'em not so long ago (already had a neck off an '83 Japanese P that I was very fond of) and was blown away by the quality. A very positive buying experience. Another stateside option is US Custom Guitars: http://www.usacustomguitars.com/pegheads.html who seem to be fairly well regarded in various forums I searched around on - never used them myself though - just dropping in their name as food for thought. Pick-up wise I went with Jason Lollar p/ups. I like round and warm. They're still putting a smile on my face... Here's my build if you're interested in having a look: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=70330 Just one thing to bear in mind if buying from outside the EU is shipping and import duty: typically 17.5% on top of the value of the goods AND p&p charges. If the vendor is using UPS to ship, then UPS will pay the duty for you and collect the amount when they deliver - they'll also hit you up for a charge of around £15 for speeding it through customs for ya. It soon adds up! Good luck with the project man! w./ Edited April 1, 2010 by waldemar
