umph
i have really bad gas for a bass VI or similar type instrument at the minute and was wondering what're my options that are going to cost under a grand. I already know about the schecter and the burns ones just wondering if there was anything else similar about!

absolutpepper
As a leftfield option - Grab a Fender Jazzmaster and then buy the Warmoth strat conversion neck. Both the Strat and Jazzmaster are 25.5" scale so it'll go straight on without the need for a bridge adjustment. It obviously wont be the same (for a start it'll be 28" rather than 30" scale) but you could still tune E - E and have a supremely cool instrument for the money. I bought a Jazzmaster for this exact project, just not got round to it yet - damn it for playing so well as a normal 6 string.... One thing worth noting is that the Jazzmaster bridge is funamentally flawed in its design so you'll need new saddles and a Whizzo Buzz Stop. Stu-khag
I have gas for a bass VI, anyone seen any that have been sold or are for sale recently? I'm assuming the jap version would be the most affordable version! Also, what about the jag baritone, is that similar at all?
Prime_BASS
I'm sure the jag baritone is the same intrument as the bass VI, except new.
ashevans09
I've been GASSING after one of these for years. Only ever seen them in the £6000 odd price bracket so never really been a feasible idea!
RussFM
Jaguar Baritone is 27" scale (tuned to B-B ) where as the Bass VI is 30" (tuned E-E) Edited May 6, 2010 by RussFM
ashevans09
There's one on t'bay atm. Will be shipped from America and will undoubtedly be horrendously expensive but there we go: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VINTAGE-1962-FENDER-...=item53e12380f0

They are very cool instruments because when playing them like a bass they don't sound nearly as thin as you think they would, roll the tone off and you can get a nice big thumpy sound but then you can still strum a chord and having a bigsby on a bass is very very cool. I was eyeing up the Dano's and the OLP, the Dano you can actually get for around 180 or so ebay I recall. I decided on the Gretsch because it just looked cooler and had what I consider a proper trem capable of handling the bass strings. Olp was nice but the pickup routes are quite messy and overall it feels a bit cheap.

geoffbyrne
I have a Yamaha Drop 6 Baritone which I've just 'done up' as it had no pickups or strings. It's quite a short scale for a baritone , 27", B - B, but with 13 - 70 gauge strings, seems to work just fine. The previous own (kid!) stripped the finish & waxed the wood - it looks a bit 'roadworn' but plays pretty well. Now that I've done that I've another project to move on to & would be up for parting with it if anyone's interested. G.
