shosgood
Hi all, Just joined a 5-piece southern/hard/rock/metal inspired originals band called Backhand Saloon based in Exeter. I Replaced the old bass player who played with a pick, where as I am a finger-er-er-er. The drummer has also been replaced by a much better player! Check out our myspace: Backhand Saloon The recordings are from a little while ago and we are soon to have some re-recorded songs and lots of new ones put up. Let me know what you think. Edited May 27, 2010 by shosgood
thisnameistaken
I'm currently playing in a little 5-piece reggae-influenced... punk? band. Drums, bass, guitar, 3 vox, trombone, trumpet and occasionally organ (organ seems to be getting scarcer recently...). Just uploaded some rough demos we've been working on to the myspaz: http://www.myspace.com/copaseticska Could do with more confident brass takes really, not to mention in-tune vocals. Always work to do... Edited May 27, 2010 by thisnameistaken
the_skezz
In a punk band called the Deficits, facebook is here http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pa...78136285?ref=ts Only had one gig so far (though it went pretty well, especially considering we've only had one practise as a full band) and we've got a couple of others coming up in July (see the facebook for more details). No songs up yet, but we're looking to record some stuff in August when we've got more experience.

pantherairsoft
I seemed to of let this thread slip away! Silly me. Keep adding guys. Some amazing stuff here. There is now also a facebook group thread that a fellow BassChatter has started. If you have a Facebook Group please add to that thread also and support the bands there as well! My newest project… Our Helical Mind A 2-piece funk/D&B/Break Beat kinda thing. Good fun and I get to use all of my pedals! Still in its early days, but the tracks are getting there and we are planning a 'proper' recording and a pile of gigs from the end of next month. Both myself and the drummer are from a rock background (Former touring drummer with 'The Meatloaf Story' & 'Circus Du Vampire Rocks') so its been hard to break some old ways… but we are happy with how things are going and have already had a few MC's and local Drum & Bass bars/clubs approach us about doing spots between DJ sets… Myspace - http://www.myspace.com/ourhelicalmind I've already sent friend requests to pretty much all of you that have contributed to this thread so I can see what new updates are happening in your musical worlds. Twigman
I play with Sad Lovers & Giants. Sad Lovers & Giants are a rock band from Watford, England who formed in 1981. Their sound blends post-punk, atmospheric keyboards and psychedelia and the band has been described as "a pastoral Pink Floyd." The band's members have included Garçe (Simon) Allard (vocals), Tristan Garel-Funk (guitar), Tony McGuinness (now part of the trance trio Above & Beyond) (guitar), Cliff Silver (bass), Ian Gibson (bass), David Wood (keyboards and saxophone), Juliet Sainsbury (keyboards), Marco Müllner (keyboards), Nigel Pollard (drums & percussion) and Wilberforce Hicks (keyboards). The original lineup produced two studio albums, Epic Garden Music and Feeding the Flame, before splitting in 1983. During this initial period they recorded a John Peel Session for the BBC and a live concert for the Dutch Radio Hilversum station, which was subsequently released as the album Total Sound. Live performances included headline dates at UK colleges and clubs with occasional trips to Europe, although they did support The Sound at a major London venue on the day Epic Garden Music entered the UK independent charts. European interest in the band began to grow, and with the release of second album Feeding the Flame, they toured Germany and Holland, gaining a dedicated fanbase. Artistically, Feeding the Flame is considered to be their finest work and hints at a potential that could have elevated them to the status of contemporaries such as The Chameleons, Cocteau Twins and Modern English. Tensions within the band caused a complete disintegration, however, with Garel-Funk and Pollard leaving to form The Snake Corps (inwhich I played keyboards). Not much was heard for a while; their label Midnight Music released a "mopping up" album entitled In the Breeze, which included one of their previously unreleased signature tune, "Three Lines". They returned in 1986 with an updated lineup (Tony McGuiness on guitar, Juliet Sainsbury on keyboards and Ian Gibson on bass), and new album entitled The Mirror Test. Although stylistically similar to the original lineup, the dark edginess of songs like "In Flux" had, to a certain extent, been replaced by more melodic songwriting. On the other hand, the new lineup had a live energy previously lacking, and as they continued to play the best of the old songs, their act developed to produce some truly memorable performances. As interest abroad grew, the band performed extensively in Holland, Spain and France, headlined at the old Marquee club in London's Soho, and with the release of their fourth album, Headland, were a featured band in Melody Maker. They released a further album Treehouse Poetry before Midnight Music went bust and the band split once again, coming together occasionally for gigs supporting And Also The Trees at the Marquee Club and London's Electric Ballroom. E-mail from Eternity, a 'best of' compilation, was released by the record label Cherry Red in 1996 after the company picked up the Midnight catalogue. In 2002, the band released a brand new album called Melting in the Fullness of Time. They played two dates in Italy a year later. SL&G (Allard, McGuiness, Pollard, Gibson, Müllner) played several gigs in Italy in April 2009, coinciding with Cherry Red's re-release of Feeding The Flame and Epic Garden Music. Hicks (also in Detachments) replaced Müllner later in 2009. They closed 2009 with a gig in their hometown of Watford. In 2010 Cherry Red re-issued The Mirror Test. In 2010 Sad Lovers and Giants have played a couple of gigs in Athens and a Midnight Music reunion festival in Barcelona. They are releasing 7" vinyl in October followed by a full CD & download album in spring 2011. Hamsalad
I play in a progressive/dance/rock ish band called Dalla Russia. The basic ethos is to use odd time signatures, key changes and extended sections without people realising they're listening to anything more then standard 4/4, meaning it can be enjoyed on two levels. If you just want a pulse to dance to, we give you that, but if you're into music, then you can appreciated the architecture behind everything. Here's one of our tracks synced to Knight Rider: Our myspace
Lozz196
I play in The Daves None of us are actually called Dave though. No idea where the name came from, as the band had already been going for three yrs when I joined. Think it could be a parody "Chav & The Daves", or from Only Fools - alright Dave? Anyway, we`re a classic punk covers band - Pistols/Clash/Undertones/Buzzcocks/SLF etc. Line-up is: Dave - singer (and occaisonal rhythm gtr) Dave - lead gtr Dave - bass Dave - drums And to make sure the boot-boy terrace backing vocs are present, we all holler along in the choruses. On a usual gig, we play 2 sets of abt 20 songs in each set - value for money or what, seeing as we don`t play places that charge admittance (or at least try not to, unless something is offered that we really can`t turn down). www.thedaves.co.uk http://www.myspace.com/theukdaves The band also has original material as well http://www.myspace.com/davefromthedaves We are also on Facebook, but as I`m personally not, I can`t provide the link. We don`t do anything that hasn`t been done before, but we`re good at what we do (from what others say, not our own ego-inflated opinions) and our gigs are good fun without too much seriousness, as although we put maximum effort in to this, we see it as something we do for the love of it, so no shoe-gazing Daves here, we aim to provide entertainment, and some good sing-along songs. Hopefully, we put a smile on the audiences faces, and they go home having had a good evening.

xilddx
Hello, my name is Nigel and I'm an alcoholic. My two bands are thus (and it's an absolute delight and privilege to play with them) .. Krupa - I've been playing bass with Krupa's solo band for about three years. She's the singer with Transglobal Underground and previously with 1 Giant Leap. Krupa on vocal and Kaoss Pad, Hamid Mantu from Transglobal on drums and percussion, me on bass. We have an album coming out in November which got a lovely 4 star review in Uncut Magazine last month. You can hear some of it here http://www.myspace.com/krupa "Jaw droppingly good" The Evening Standard "UNCUT MAGAZINE REVIEW OCT 2010: Artist: KRUPA Album:Wonder If The Moon DiscoMind Girl Productions* * * * Global influences fused into perky urban pop Spinning the bouncy, rhythmic Eighties dance-pop of Madonna and Prince into fresh directions with great lashings of Bollywood themes and tropes, this striking-looking Londoner’s solo debut buzzes like a peripatetic wasp, from the opening salvo of “Love Sting” to the looping “Ridiculous Boy”, which echoes the Purple Imp’s “Dirty Mind”. Krupa has sung for Transglobal Underground and 1 Giant Leap and now revels in unleashing her own predilections, asserting independence as an “Emotional Yoyo”. It’s as busy as Tom Tom Club with burbling samples, funky drum-breaks and bursts of reggae and rap, and insistently catchy. Fierce." Chris Roberts "Vocally at times Krupa sounds like Kate Bush but with balls. Let’s hope audiences soon catch on to the fact that the future of music is with acts like this, rather than with the gaudy pyrotechnics of the X Factor." Howard Male - The Arts Desk" Nov 2009 "Insanely catchy Bollywood pop style" BBC ------------------------------------------------------------------- Kit Richardson - I've been playing with Kit for a year and a half. It's ferocious chamber pop. Kit's an extremely talented singer/songwriter/pianist and I answered her ad for a bassist in this very portal. I simply HAD to be in her band Line up is Kit on vocal and piano, Oli Dacombe on Drums, Sam Norris on guitar, MicroKorg and Glockenspiel, Emma Blanco and Jessie May Smart on violins. We are going to record a new EP in November. There is some older live in the studio stuff here, but we sound much bigger now. skankdelvar
Hi I'm Skank and here's my early 70's retro cover band 'The Cover Ups'. The twist is that we only play songs that would have been in a covers band set in the early 1970's. So lots of Marmalade, Melanie, Pickettywitch, Englebert Humperdinck. And we do it in character, so lots of period jokes about Mr Enoch Powell, darkies and Concord (no 'e' that's for Froggies). Our fee is payable in pre-decimalisation cash, so pounds shillings and pence only, Mr Landlord! We are: Skank Del Var: Bass, B.Vox Derek Swarm: Singer, Guitar, Castinets Vince Felcher: Guitar, keys, sax, banjo, melodeon, chimes and frog Binky Statchworth: Drums, B.Vox and van The Binkster and I met while playing in Flat Mattress, a Noel Redding Tribute outfit. The Cover-Ups are playing a residency at The Pines Daycare Centre in Bicester every Wednesday afternoon up till Xmas. They won't let you inside but you can see us through a window if you look over the wall just by the bus stop. Give us a wave, eh! Jean-Luc Pickguard
O5B once did a gig where we did the first set as a three piece. The singer did the usual 'introduce the members of the band' bit & introduced me & the drummer, then ten indicating the empty space normally occupied by the second guitarist said "The other member of the band would have been the Late Nick Guitarist" then a pause followed by "He's not dead, just running a bit late late"

janmaat
Okay my turn My main band is called Lonesome Cowboys from Hell, based in London we're a five piece, we call it "Psycho Country" but I think "Punk-Oldtime" would fit better - or would it?? maybe dark cabaret country... - Calum F. Kerr - voc / perf - Tim Flitcroft - guitar, ukulele, accordeon - Billy Smith - fiddle - John DeVolle - drums - me on --- gut bucket bass or, more recently, double bass http://lonesomecowboysfromhell.com/ Then I play in a band called "A Band", that's somehow a noise-experimental-jam band of 50+ members (!), some say it's avant-garde, I play mainly fretless BG there - great fun And I am frequently dep'ing for Madgalena in Rex Nemo and the Psychic Self Defenders, a new 5 piece band that I think has a bright future, where I'm playing fretted BG - more of a rock band; there is some stuff somewhere on Youtube, where we play the Supernormal Festival (crap PA so rubbish bass sound on these) Cheers guys loving it
