keeponehandloose
My first topic on here,so Hello all. Being more familiar with Upright bass,I do play bass guitar and just got a spare set of strings for my 51 Precision . I bought long scale ,but the binding at the nut end reaches the first fret. What scale length is the Precision? Is there Extra Long Scale?
velvetkevorkian
A Precision is 34" scale. You can get extra long strings but there's not a consistent standard for what defines long/extra long scale, and it doesn't take into account factors like whether the bass is strung through the body or not. If you can get extra longs with the strings you like that's probably the best way to go. Hope that helps. Kyle

My '51 P measures just about 32" from (Hipshot) bridge to fret #1, that's what length an average set of medium scale strings would be. What make/model strings are they? There are XL strings, usually quoted for up to 36" scale but you don't need them for a Precision.
