lee650
We dont have one, so im starting a thread!!! My Ken Smith BSR 5MW, its sounds amazing and has the best neck ive ever played on a five, flamed maple core. walnut top and back, mahogany stringers with a morado fingerboard, very warm and clear tone which cuts through the mix amazingly. Thunderthumbs
Beautiful bass that Lee. What do you mean "before I'm forced to part with it"???
Bilbo
Each to his own but I have always found Ken Smith basses to be ugly looking things. They can sound ok but not sufficiently 'idiosyncratic' to make them a 'must have'. I wouldn't buy one even if I had the money.
Kiwi
I had three as many people know but they're going to stay in the past.

overwater#1
I know theres a lotta Smith owners on here! Surely we can get some more pictures and appreciation together!! Tbh guys, please avoid bad comments about Smith basses.. this is a porn/appreciation thread! Designed to appreciate Kens basses...... I'd expect a certain level of abuse if I said bad things about basses you guys own and love!!! I've dealt with Ken on several occasions, and admire the guy really. Yeah some bad things have gone on, and he's upset people, but that happens all the time with different people. We should be discussing the good side of things here! Really, I think the negative comments should be deleted... Pics of mine coming soon... I'm a fan at least, the tone of any Smith bass just excites, and I really think its a fantastic thing.... I've sold two cherished basses to be able to get my Black Tiger. Lets get some more pictures and some convo going!!! overwater#1
Hi Geoff... Manchester? We're thinking of organising some form of NW bassbash/get together at somepoint. Me and Lee were talking about it perhaps, might look at organising something sometime.

He didn't intend on selling apparently, used it a lot.. can't wait to receive it!! Pricey, but looks phenomenal!!
Toasted
Okidoke. You bought a 6? I wonder if he has a 5 he wants to sell.
overwater#1
Message him... he just had a BSR5EG but I think he's JUST sold it! He sent me pics of that one earlier, very nice! Ask him mind, I think he deals in Smiths from all over the world. Buys and sells a lot so I hear, so probably be able to find one! Yeah I wanted to hold out for a 6, no question. 6 really works for me! Edited April 14, 2010 by overwater#
lee650
Cheers matt!!! Cant wait to see your black tiger, is it the same one as the pics on facebook? the figured walnut on those is just sublime, id love to see some more pics of Walldav,s 25th anniversary fusion elite, now thats my perfect smith right there!!!. Is yours the black tiger or the black tiger elite? im a nosey get!!! you must PM me what that thing set you back so in theory now you have your dream bass, when you go to the royal northern you can concentrate on music rather than chasing tone dragons like me cant wait to hear the tiger in action ive never played one. Geoff in answer to your question, the smith i have isnt heavy at all, not sure of the precise weight, but its a lot lighter and more comfortable than the warwick jazzman 5 i had previously, looking forward to some more smith pics as i too have been a long time fan, ever since i saw freddie washington playing his on my "bass as a solo instrument" video many moons ago, lovely tone and i dont think they are ugly at all, each to their own- cheers - lee Ps Matt - time to change your username to - EL BLACK TIGER#1 Edited April 14, 2010 by lee650

AndyTravis
Just got a 1991 Ken Smith Burner Artist, one of the Japanese handmade versions... Plays great, haven't had chance to plug it in yet. I'm still doing a bit of reading up on these basses, but once i've put some D'addario 40-95's on it, and set it up a bit, i'll post some sounds up. Always fancied a full blown Smith, but this will have to do for now!
lee650
Thats bloody lovely Andy!! ive been doing some research on the burners myself and the stuff ive seen on youtube ( playing aside) the tone is fantastic, really really good basses, i bet your dead chuffed, whats the top wood on that is it walnut? i will wager its very very close to the USA smiths, probably too close for kens liking anyway probably doesnt need it, but i wonder if those nordstrands you have would benefit it congrats on a great buy, we must meet up with matt (overwater #1) and compare smiths, he,s got a posh black tiger!!
