Bassistclem
Seen a TRB4II for sale for £400. I like the sound of them but has anyone played one? What do you think? Is it worth the money? Does anyone know the neck width at the nut, think it is 40mm (inch and half) like a traditional Jazz bass... Any input would be gratefully recieved. BassBus
The old TRB range are good basses. I have the TRB6II which I bought for £475 about 8 years ago, if that's of any use. Jazz basses are about 38mm at the nut, so 40mm might be getting towards p-bass dimensions. That extra couple of mm makes all the difference, for me anyway. Jazz necks are a little too narrow for me. ikay
Specs of the TRB4 can be found here: http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/Conten...mp;CTID=5068000 The original series TRBs are superb basses (I have an early TRB5) and generally considered to be better than the later TRB II series. I had the choice of both when I bought mine and played them back to back - the original had much better tone and just felt more responsive and 'organic'. The II is still a very good bass but look for an early one if you can.
Raslee
I had a TRBII 4 string fairly recently. The neck was very wide, wider than a P bass, just. Quality was second to none, very well built and a comfortable bass to play-heavy though. Sounds are very versatile from the pre amp, quite modern-dare i say 'hi-fi' (whatever that means )...all in all though a great quality bass but there was just something about it that didn't quite do it for me, it didn't quite compete with my olde warm sounding Stingray or my 96 Corvette...not that it should but i thought its just not for me. Very glad i tried one though. Edited April 13, 2010 by Rasta
