Hello there

Just a first shot across the bow to say a quick hello.

I'm a long term bassist (18 years) just come back to the light after playing guitar and shouting for a few years - I've committed the cardinal sin of spending big-ish money on guitars and and skimped on the bass, a situation which needs to addressed!

I'm looking for a few tips on modding and building; to make contacts in the Big Bottom World; and to gain some sagely advice for my big purchase (either a vintage Fender Jazz or an EGC Series One - or both!) which I want to fund by selling a Marshall 4x12 pre-Rola cab which seems to vary wildly in price but is in immaculate condition.

In return I can speak at length about horrible cheap basses and good recipes for beef stew/chickpea curry.

Rig - current and previous:

Selmer Treble n' Bass 50 SV (Selmer Valve)
Peavey 100 EPA Power Amp with Tronographic Rusty Box as a preamp
1970 Marshall 1935B basketweave cab with 4x12 Pre-Rola Celestion Greenbacks (dated April 1970...)
Electro-Voice B1150M cab (with beautiful original EVM15L driver and 6" vented midrange)
H&H Standard solid state Bass Amp
H&H PA rig with Boss pre-amp (long gone!)

OLP MM2 Stingray copy
Epiphone "by Gibson" AccuBass
Westone Thunder 1A (Sold!)
Tanglewood PBass (stolen)
Encore PBass (mists of time)

Bottom End I admire (in particular order):

Mike Watt - check out the bass spiel http://www.corndogs.org/bigbottompowwow.html
Joe Lally (Fugazi)
Rick Danko (The Band)
David Wm. Sims (Jesus Lizard)
Lou Barlow (Dinosaur/Sebadoh etc)
Cris Kirkwood (Meat Puppets)
Tim Midgett (Silkworm/Bottomless Pit)
Brian Ritchie (Violent Femmes)
Clint Conley (Mission of Burma)
