No idea if this is the correct forum, cant make my mind up which one to post in sorry. Anywho. The famous track Love will tear us apart. by Joy Division. I looked it up on one of the many bass tab sites and find that people not even 100% sure that its a bass doing the main groove. Certainly sounds like Hooky to me. However apparently he appears to be playing chords on the bass in many instances ie: hitting E & A together i think, on the intro. Can anyone out there confirm this? I tried it and it sounds like my efforts on an old acoustic i used to own ie: awful. Can anyone tell me whats going on in this track. Even better would be if anyone has it in bass clef instead of tab.

No, Hooky used a Yamaha BB. He did use a Shergold 6 string later though.

Fist note is E on the G string with open D.
Yep, that's right!

At the time he seemed to use a Rick more than anything else.

Yeah sorry Hooky's was a 6 wasn't it -- at least we can remember the songs, apparently New Order can't remember some of them (See Moby story)

This footage of Hooky playing it at a benefit gig shows the fingering pretty clearly - I always thought he did the drone on D too, but I don't think he is here, as he drops down to play the final few notes of the riff on the D: -

The intro/bridge bit is an A - looks like he's doing the octave & fifth as a chord.

Cheers,

B.

I love the original but that really strikes me as a dire cover. Pete Hook obviously giving it his all but a stiff backing band and dire singer don't help things.
