Anyone ever bought a prized instrument from Cash Converters?

not quite as good as the fodera but I got a fretless MIM jazz bass in sunburst about 5 years ago from cash converters. It was as new and had labella flats on it. i paid £85, had to go and extend my overdraft to get it as I was skint at the time!

I see guys buy quality tools from there also at silly prices

Behind every cheap item, which was brought by them even cheaper than the price tag, there is a story

They're the cheaper models in the range, but still around £2500 a pop! He's still got it. Uses it in his studio.
Probably Crack Converters had to shift that bass sharpish as it was too hot, obviously stolen with the police looking all over for it.

From what i remember, they had just never heard of fodera before and/or there was nothing on the headstock, either way they didn't know what it was, just thought it was some generic jazz clone, so they sold it for a ridiculous price.
A little OT but I remember I was in our local second hand music shop one Saturday morning when two scrotes turned up with a tenor sax that blatantly didn't belong to them, he said to them "I'll give you £XX (I don't remember how much) but I haven't got that much at the moment can you come back in an hour" so they went off I said after they were gone "Do you think that's nicked" he said "Yep that's why the police will be here when they get back"
haha incredible. a friend of a friend picked up a gibson sg in the pontypridd cash converters for like £140. turned out to be the standard which is roughly about a grand.

Got a Rickenbacker Guitar - bolt on neck 'budget model' with the hi gain moulded pick ups. Someone changed the bridge thus the serial number was missing so the guy thought it was a copy. Had it listed for £150 and I offered him £120 - sold days later for £400. I have found a few bargains - convinced I missed a mesa boogie mark something amp (badge was missing) in a Belfast CC yrs ago - full of valves and weighed a ton. Went back a few days later once I got paid but it was gone. They were looking £140 or something like that.

There are some great deals to be had and its worth checking every week if you can. As for everything being stolen I have seen photo's being taken of ppl selling stuff in store and they appear to be pretty tight with that sort of thing but that could depend on which shop you go to.

Yeh, the CC in Stirling is awful. They're trying to sell a japcrap 'Tesco' or something for £170 amongst overpriced Schecters and stuff. Bargains are out there, but i fear the advent of a quick google/ebay past auctions search has put a stop to most of them these days. The charity shop down the road had a Burberry Mac for £35. I noticed because the bird wanted it, i went back and it was sold. Later that week, looking on eBay for one i saw one in Edinburgh, identical, right up at £500 with bids and 2 days left. Gutted.

No individual shot of it, but I have one or two in a group shot here:

As you can see, I put a Lucky 13 red decal over the pg, but it only covers a tiny bit-you get the idea

They are lovely basses-well done again :)

Major thread resurrection but was thinking the other day.....Whenever I'm in any town i always pop my head in any Cash Converters to see if there are any bargains to be had.  Years back you could find the occasional gem but seems nowadays they just check ebay and price accordingly.

However, i was in Camden the other day and popped my head in the local CC to see an old USA Ampeg SVT 3 pro (older version with the red and blue logo).  It was immaculate, like NOS immaculate.  I didn't try it out but when i enquired about the price they said they would take £250 for it, seems very cheap to me so looks like bargains can still be had if you look around?

Last time I checked my local Money Traders (like Crack Converters but you don't get fleas when you go in) they had a mint condition Ibanez SRMS805 in the Sea Floor finish for £550, they're about a grand new. Played nicely but didn't plug it in as I don't like tight spacing or licensed Barts. They also had matching left handed guitar and bass Steinberger Spirits in earlier this year for £250 each, seems to be a better standard of kit in there than the usual Cashies junk so I always have a look.

One of these:

My best find was a Lexicon PCM90 reverb. Maybe £100 or something. It was stolen few years later, and I got a good compensation from my insurance company.

Should have gone back down to cash converters to get it back!

In response to the OP, I suspect there’s a few who have unwittingly bought someone else’s prized instrument from CC.

Indeed, I sold my very first bass/love to Cash Converters. One of my life’s biggest regrets, but I had no choice at the time (due to someone else’s poor decisions…).
