monkeybass
i'm looking at getting my first half stack. I've seen the peavy tour 450 head and peavy tvx410 cab. the cab comes with 8ohms or 4ohms. Also will this head work if i add a peavy115 cab as-well?
casapete
If you get that Peavey head, it will give its full 450 watts output into a 4 ohm load. So your options are- 1) Get a 4 ohm 4x10 cab - this will mean your amp will be giving it's optimum output all the time, but you cant add another cab later. 2) Get an 8 ohm 4x10 cab - your amp will not give its full 450 watts into this (although it may still be loud enough for the moment),but you will then have the option of adding another 8 ohm cab (1x15 etc) at a later date for bigger gigs/when funds allow. The use of 2 cabs will be probably the best sound your amp will deliver. Maybe best thing is to see if you can arrange to try the amp with a 4ohm cab and then an 8 ohm one too. The difference may not be that marked, and maybe the one 4 ohm cab option will be all you ever need. Good luck! chris_b
It will, but you might prefer the sound if you add another 410! On the other hand, you might prefer a 610. If the amp can go to 2 ohms, you could run a 4 ohm 410 and an 8 ohm 210. This would run the amp at 2.67 ohms but the individual speakers will get the same power, so nothing will get too stressed. monkeybass
what i'm thinking is getting the cab+head then trading in my current amp for a 1x15 speaker so is it 8ohm i want?
chris_b
2 8 ohm cabs is what you need to run the amp at 4 ohm. This will put equal power into each cab. Edited April 16, 2010 by chris_b
