I've seen many unsigned / new bands over the years, and trust me, covering the stage with backdrops and banners and logo branding looks absolutely crap and won't win you any respect.

As mentioned before a bass drum skin is all you need, as long as the graphic/logo/font is nice that is! Backdrops are ok, but as long as it fits in with the size of venue you're doing. don't drape things over risers/PA speakers/ various stands!

If people like your music they will find out what your band name is and begin to follow you, the organic way

I'd give him 3 reasons:

1. It's my stuff if you think you're printing anything on it you can pay for it (the gear).

2. It looks sh*t.

3. I'm not in this band any more.

Agreed with many people here, it looks pretty naff to have all the cabs altered with the logo on. Just a backdrop would do.
