mgibson Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Again, with the magazines, have you seen this Bootsy Collins Online Funk University?... http://www.thefunkuniversity.com/ Quote
Eight Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 This could be interesting. I'm not really a funk guy, but the chance to learn from one of the best might be too tempting. Depending on the price of course. Quote
PauBass Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I can't find one of the emails I received last week but, if I remember correctly, it cots $259 and you can pay yearly, every semester or monthly...I'll see if I can find the email to confirm it. Quote
The Funk Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 An online course? I'm sure it'll be great for a lot of people but I wish it was a Wooten/Bailey-style bass camp. Quote

It actually sounds very good so far. But time will tell... and no idea of prices etc. yet. Quote
patch006 Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I am getting the emails as well, looks interesting. No info on prices etc yet. Quote
munkonthehill Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 aye am getting the emails too, but as we all know things like this can be talked up to finally be nothing of use to anyone......Im very interested however!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Rosh Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Monthly Student Plan $29.99 Semester Student Plan $149.99 Year Student Plan $299.99 Quote
bass_ennyday Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Got a "Golden Ticket" but still not decided if i should sign up or better not. This weekend the opportunity to save on tuition ends and i have to really think about it fast now. if i sign up, then i would go for the 150U$ (118 €) plan. Quote
Eight Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I went for the monthly option. Near enough equates (cost-wise) to one extra bass lesson a month, so if they keep the promise of uploading new stuff daily then it could be a very good thing for me. Quote
munkonthehill Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 am out of this, seems a bit expensive for an online tutorial. Quote

I can't help feeling a bit sceptical that they will have enough to justify daily updates Quote
Rettoglide1 Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Money making scam hey.... If you want to learn funk the bootsy way just listen to his records and replicate as best you can....better than paying him $300 lol. Quote

I can't help feeling a bit sceptical that they will have enough to justify daily updates
They don't officially open until June but they've posted a few exercises and things to work on in the mean time. Stuff like the spider and crab exercises, g major scale all over the neck, blues scales, slapping + popping exercises etc. Basically, things you're going to "need to know" for the actual course. I don't know if it will be any good or not - I'm betting on it being useful enough *for me* to justify the cost. I have my doubts exactly how useful it'll all be for someone with more playing experience and knowledge of funk; but since I have very little of either then I'm sure I'm going to be easily pleased. Bare in mind they're promising structured development, resources and feedback (if you send in clips of you playing etc.) then it's more or less what I get from my bass teacher (not quitting regular lessons btw) and have found extremely beneficial over just picking tunes I like and playing them. I doubt it will be as good as they're claiming (that's what marketing is all about) but it's a bit early to write it off as a scam. Quote
JackLondon Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 what he said ^ and I think it can be beneficial to anyone at any stage of experience! Quote

steve-soar Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 You ain't gonna learn anything remotely funky by sitting in front of a computer, doing an "on-line course". Have a word with yourselves. Quote
