wateroftyne
Apparently they've just changed, and some of the lines are now rebranded D'Addario Chromes.

Cat Burrito
I've got some Fender flats on my 1989 MIJ P-bass for a while and they sound great. Others rave about TI flats and La Bellas here but those Fender ones do the job for me.

I've been hunting via Google but can't find any mention of the change. I'm most intrigued.
There's a thread on TB - I'd link ya but I'm on my phone at the mo and it'd take me an age... Sorry! Prime_BASS
I had a set on my power jazz, thickened out the sound and mellowed it out. I did like it. Only the E string open would worbble for no reason, it was horrible no matter what I did it just would uncontrollably worbble. If it wasn't so obvious inwould have kept them on. I won't again though. Mr Fudge
Never used flatwounds but Im interested. Any difference in the feel, apart from the guage differences. Would I use them in my rock/pop covers band?
paul h
Very smooth on the fingers Fudge, not for everybody. Not sure I would go for them with your kind of playing/set list.
paul h
I would recommend trying these... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELECTRIC-BASS-GUITAR...#ht_4642wt_1058 I have used the roundwounds and they are great strings for the money. I haven't actually used the flats but they are a cheap way to experiment.
KiOgon
Apparently they've just changed, and some of the lines are now rebranded D'Addario Chromes.
I have a set of the 'New' Flats (in the Black/Green pack) 9050ML Stainless I bought because they were cheap + on next day delivery when I was in a hurry Most often I get GHS strings from the USA, 1/2 the price they are here, but that takes a week or so without Iceland's fallout! Anyway the Fenders felt a little 'edgy' at first but soon settled in & now I'm very pleased with them on my Frank Bello, it's got great P bass sounds on the neck pup & a real J growl on the bridge, (high output passive SD 1/4lbs). They feel mid-range tension wise, not floppy or stiff, (Goldilocks moment), just right There's no markings on the pack/inner bag other than Fender & Made in USA. Dave Vader
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=637384 there's that thread, and I have a set of these on my P-bass, love them, feel and sound perfect for what I'm doing, whatever band it is. Worth a go as they're nice and cheap, just put a set on my rickenfaker last night, felt a little tense, will check later that the neck hasn't snapped... Leave them on for a month before judging them, and don't worry how they sound solo, play them in a band and you'll work out what they're for.
