Bought this lovely creature recently off thebeat. Its modded with SD Antiquity pickup, a Fender deluxe (fully adjustable) bridge, and I added some Fender chrome covers. Oh and it has TI Flats on. Plays really nicely (dare I say it, even nicer than Sid, think its the chunkier maple neck) and has a superb deep fundamental bass tone.
Ah good man, you've got it all sorted then? How you getting on the SD Antiquity pup? Mine is great and the 51 is a seriously cool bass with this mod. It sounds great stock too but I love that pickup
As I haven't tried the stock pickup (thebeat kindly supplied original bridge and p/up as freebie extras) I don't know how the two compare. But I really love the deep rootsy tone of the SD - its pure bass. I'm undecided on the chrome covers though - they look fabulously retro and are fine with fingerstyle but do get in the way playing fast pickstyle

They do look the mutts though. I have them on mine. I play about 40% with a pick and you just adapt to be honest. That said I'm recording an album in June and I was practising the songs earlier (on a different P-bass with ashtrays) and I did think "I might have to take these off in the studio". I'm such a poser! :)

Knowing even some of your collection, I don't think I'd have the heart to ask you to choose your 'desert island bass'... :)
(That said, feel free to respond if you want to. )
Hey SR5! Desert island bass? No question - my sunburst 72 Precision. If I were forced to sell my pricier basses for whatever reason then the 51 reissue would be a great bass to have as a go-to. There's something something special about the design (I am probably swayed by its place in history as the first production bass from Leo, albeit mine is of course a repro) but it kind of is 'essence of bass' or a Michelin chef would call it 'jus of bass'!
