daz
Ever since i first picked up my bass before Xmas i have been trying to thumb slap, all to no avail. I don't' mean it sounded bad. I didn't sound anything except of side of thumb against strings/ frets. I have two cheap bases and the Peavey millenium, but that needs new strings, they are dead as a doornail, so i never tried with that. But my other two i tried for hours and all i ever heard was an embarrassing twink thonk thunk fssszzk. So i try last night with my brand new shiney Squier CV jazz unplugged into any amp and got what were vaguely OK ish sounds, or i thought might have been if they were amplified, and made a note to try today avec amp, though with not much hope. I had been let down before by believing rash promises made on book advert blurbs etc. Well tonight i nearly fell off the chair with shock when a half decent thumb slap sound came from the speaker. To say i was Happy and surprised is putting it mildly. A weaker man may have sobbed into his hankie, or offered up a prayer of thanks to Hendrix or somesuch. But i just turned the amp up and thumb slapped away for over an hour like a grinning though very noisy idiot, until informed it was "gone 7PM and next doors kids will be in bed" "But they wont hear this, there are three walls between me and them!" "Yes well you've never had it this loud before" was the answer. In my excitement i had notched it quite a bit further than usual. I am sure no one here would blame me. What a difference a quality piece of kit makes.
