thepurpleblob
I'm trying to hone my reading skills a bit and could use some more dots to read. Has anybody got any sources, links, recommendations? Don't mind terribly much what it is (within reason skills wise - I don't have many) and I don't even mind paying. Very much prefer not to have the tab underneath which is incredibly distracting
Bilbo
I have posted about 30 transcriptions here under the Theory and Technique section. SOme of them are very readable for learners (straight quarter notes etc) and they get harder and harder. Just put 'transcription' into the search tool here and there are loads available for free. With Spotify around, most of this stuff is readily acccessible even if you haven't got the recordings. PM me if you have any trouble. I can almost play "The Fez" thanks to you.... as long as the speed is turned down a bit in the old Tascam TBH... I struggled to find the actual original to listen to for many of them as I mostly wasn't familiar with them.
Bilbo
Good point: The cds the tunes are from are usually listed on the threads and most of tehm can be bought as individual tunes in itunes etc. Anything you are particularly interested in but can't find? PM me.
TKenrick
Apologies for the self-promotion, but if you click the link in my sig then you should find there's a few transcriptions to look through that should suit most levels of reading ability. lowdown
There is some great stuff on Lucas Pickfords site. Enjoy http://www.lucaspickford.com/transbass.htm Edit.. Just remembered, they are not PDF. But go full screen on your monitor and download as a Jpeg, or screen capture etc. Garry Edited April 25, 2010 by lowdown

thepurpleblob
Now we're cooking. Thanks guys. I don't want to presume but might links like this make a useful sticky thread - this is where I find out it exists already, isn't it
thepurpleblob
This book is really good for learning to read http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hal-Leonard-Bass-M...8019&sr=8-2
I can actually read music pretty well (I've played something or other for 30+ years) but I need to get a lot more practice in on the bass. I'd like to get to a half-decent sight reading standard. That puts you in that 0.05% of players (hopefully)
