Ok,it is with great thanks to my Polish friend Tomek for kindly sending me this bass,I have spent the past year finding him vintage and rare B.C.Rich guitars and basses including a PMS Bich which is one of only 15,a neck thru BCR Explorer guitar (approx 1 of 13) and approx 13 or 14 others

He sent me this for free as a thank you

1981 Quilty TJ Mock

The bass is in generally great shape, although the previous owner, before Tomek, must have stored it in water, all the screws for the cavity cover were rusted and have been replaced, the rear pick up-only 1 half works properly :)

But other than that a fantastic bass-god I love the Internet-2 free vintage BCR's in a year!!!

Yep mate,free

But,I EARNED it,you would not believe the amount of emails and telephone calls I made during that year, the guy with the B.C.Rich Explorer guitar lives in the USA and doesn't answer emails,I had to phone him twice and he just won't shut up when you're on the phone-an hour each time

Lorne's BC Rich Porn thread hasn't been updated for a while, so...

Having recently sold my last bass & a few other musical items I had a bit of spare cash knocking about when a friend of mine that collects vintage BC Rich guitars put me onto this, a 1979/80 Mockingbird Standard. It's in superb condition, with none of the knocks & chips on the "pointy bits" that are pretty much par for the course with old Rich's. Nice subtle bit of birds eye in the maple wings too. Frets were in a pretty bad way, so I took it in for a fret dress & it's as good as new.

I have to admit I bought it largely for sentimental/nostalgic reasons as I used to drool over these when I first started playing. I also worked in a music shop in the early 80s that stocked them, so I've played a lot of old Rich guitars & basses but, apart from an STIII guitar in the late 80s, I've never owned one.

It's just as good as I remembered, build quality & playability are up there with the very best basses I've owned. I haven't enjoyed owning a bass as much as this one for a LONG time. :)

[/quote] Always loved the Mockingbird Bass, such a timeless enduring classic, blows all the other more outlandish BC Rich designs away. Sadly never got to own one. The more recent budget range are just not in the same league. Ah well dream on!

My recently acquired crack-converters bargain. Gave here a good clean, wiring tidy, new battery and some nice new strings.
Got it to play Misfits covers but I'm going balder faster than Jerry Only.
So, off she goes to a new home next week and I get a new Ampeg PF rig.
Still a beauty of a bass!

Hi guys,
My first BC Rich..just arrived this afternoon..hope you like it. It was built in 1978, it's an Eagle bass, and fretless...looks like a keeper.

Nice bass Alembic1989. Wel worth the wait and worry.

I've always had a thing for the USA Mockngbird as used by Neil Murray with Whitesnake. Great sounding bass and stunning looks.

Do the Mockingbirds suffer from neckdive at all ?

Dave

Not so I've noticed, no. There are certainly far worse basses out there for neck dive.

The switches are series/parallel for each pickup, phase switch that works when both pickups are selected & the one on it's own by the varitone is the on/off switch for the preamp/boost, which has it's own volume control.
