steviedee
Hi Folks looking for a mic to blend with my pick up so I'm after some suggestions, any idea much appreciated.
Stewart
Audix D4 or perhaps D6 would be worth listening to. Still plenty of SM57s doing the job too...
steviedee
Cheers I was thinking about clip ons though I know audix do a mic for brass instruments
dangerboy
I did a whole load of tests of different mics in different positions while my girlfriend played double bass last week. The best we found was: Wrap a Beyerdynamic M201 in bubble wrap or foam, without covering the business end. Insert it into the bridge, pointing upwards towards the fingerboard. Then put an AKG c414 about 18 inches in front of the bass. Blend these together. Sounds great.
bassace
I sometimes use a DPA 4099 mic via a headway preamp. The combination is significantly better in overcoming feedback from the backline compared to a lot of other systems. I say 'sometimes' because most other times I just want to go to the gig a plug in and play without the hassle of the extra wiring. When I know that there will good front of house I certainly take the mic.

Stewart
The ATM350 is 12dB or so down at 40Hz - not really ideal
slaphappygarry
DPA 4060 well worth a try. http://www.dv247.com/microphones/dpa-4060-...crophone--20919 Can clip it on to the strings under the bridge and, because it is OMNI, it does not suffer from proximity that a cardiod mic would. The poor man's 57 setup is another option. Playing around with mics is like playing around with strings. Costly and no sure end result

Its is *tiny*, sounds lovely and to me, spill is never an issue. Unless, of course, it is beside a drum kit but then I don't know any mic that will reject that regardless of polar pattern.
