Theres no info on it apart from its Hondo and its red, I never understand why people would pay to have an ad on ebay and not put any info in it at all, doesnt tell you if theres any marks or dints, any issues with electrics or the neck, what the frets are like, whats original what isnt etc

It's always good to have that level of description but I don't think it's that common, particularly with old stuff (this is 30-odd years old) that someone's mum's dragged out of the back of a cupboard.

There's enough info here to know/see what it is, and if it was a £20 start & they'd post it, I'd be watching - you can't have too many vintage DiMarzio pups in the spares box! :)

I could pick that up. Even as a non-car owner, it's a bus ride to Melton Mowbray. My family has even once had the decision made one weekend that we were going to the Coventry Motor Museum as a Saturday outing because I'd won a pickup only ebay auction in Coventry :)

However, I'm not sure I need a Hondo precision. But, I don't think it's ridiculously out of the question. Especially if it is a MIJ. Collection only MIJ instruments are high on my list of things to watch out for on ebay

Edit: If I went out to collect it, I could get the tomato sauce that is on sale by the same seller.
Hondo 830 for £200!

Dreamin' on! Hondos don't get particularly good money unless they're confirmed MIJ hollowbodies. And then the name still puts people off. I had a gorgeous set-neck/carved top Hondo LP copy, rare as popeshit and in great condition for its age, lovely player etc. - only got £150 for it. I'm not complaining, because it cost me £25 - but if it had had any other"lawsuit era" name it would've likely made twice that.

Anyway - the one we're meant to be discussing - probably Korean, probably a ply body, neck might be OK (looks nice), the pup is a DiMarzio (standard on most Hondos around this period) scratchplate's broken. I'd pay the £50 for it, mostly for the pup, and hope the rest was useable/resellable.

And I still concur that it's a better ad than the usual "Squire base gitar, very little use, bargin" stuff.
Well look at it this way their crappy ad just got you to post on a forum and bring his auction to the attention to folk who wouldn't necessarily be searching for a collection only hondo .

and at the end of the day more info is only ask the seller a question away. By doing a little bit of work probably as much effort as it took to post this thread you could have asked the seller for more info.

Meanwhile armed with this info you could get a bargain as everyone else that can't be arsed has walked on by.

In short you've done them a favour by posting it here and they could have possibly done you a favour by having an ad that everyone else would pass by.

Also not every collection only auction is collection only. Some will post if you ask nicely before the auction end.
Im not interested in buying this or bidding for it or asking the seller questions about this bass. I was pointing out that I thought it was a poor ebay ad which I still believe it to be and find little point in posting a for sale ad and putting hardly any info in it. Personally I wouldnt buy from someone who would put so little info on an ebay auction but thats just me. If Ive bought this to the attention of a bass chatter who ends up with a bargain, thats fine by me.

That's about what I'd expect an Epiphone Les Paul Special II to go for in that condition. An older Pacifica is a much better option for someone who can only afford £60 IMHO, but Epiphone has some name recognition, and that prevents even the lowest spec models selling for nothing.

I can't see what's notable about this listing. Am I missing something?

Oh, is it the misspelling of "Empiphone"?

BTW: some time ago there was someone trying to sell an Epiphone Les Paul Special II signed by Noel Gallagher for over £2000!!!!!

Nah, don't blame you. Nobody wants to grab a bargain no-one else has spotted because of a crap ad, do they? :)

Not wishing to heap coals on the OP's head, but, IMO, I'd rather have a simple 3 liner like that than pages of mimsy crap containing 423 uses of the words WOW, RAER and V1NTidGE and a puff-filled spec pasted from the mfr's site. But that's just my 2p and one's MMV.

I went on to view his other items, because I'm sad like that. Only one spelling mistake, AFAICS - and he's also selling a jar of tomato ketchup (for a laugh, as he puts it).
