Unfortunately can't listen to the soundclip as I'm at work, but what a fantastic looking bass! Stunning. Awesome job my friend!

Hi Peaty,

Looks like I arrived late to this thread... I love that spalted top!

Threaded inserts are the way to go! Coupla questions:

Are those the Trend inserts from Axminster? And what screws did you use?

Cheers!

Hi Mikey
Yup those are the ones, however I have since discovered that the large segmented thread on these is designed for soft wood. There is a version with a smaller thread on the outside for use in hardwood. I would go for the hard wood version as they requirer a smaller hole to insert into and should be more accurate as they go in. The larger threaded soft wood insert thread had a tendency to move off center when cutting in.

Something like this would be better not only does it have a smaller thread to cut into the wood but it also has no flange on the top to stick out proud of the neck.

As for bolts I used some stainless countersunk ones that i had around from a different job....nothing special I can send you a set if you need em.

Good luck
Pete

Thanks! I wonder if they could be got direct from Germany, rather than from the US - would be cheaper!

Cheers for the kind offer - Ive got three single cuts planned, 24 bolts in total so I'll have a hunt around here and see what I can find. If theyre just standard machine bolts then I shouldnt have any problem finding them, and will probably be cheaper in bulk anyway. Otherewise I may be in touch :)
