With the smoking ban firmly in place we may never again see this kind of mojo on a bass... http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=644365

could have given it a dicht. looks like his child put the strings on with a pair of pliers.

looks like there could be a new life form developing on the bridge

Sorry but I would have to take it apart and give it a clean - mojo? e-coli more like.

Regardless, that's in need of a good clean! At the price he's asking it's the least he can do.

Yuch yuch yuch!...but I bet it plays like a beaut. Look, no wear on the truss nut and its way out flush..just like mine from the same year. Cleaned up that will be a fab bass. Gimmee...

Yuck. Can basses get cancer?

Serious question for the vintage brigade - when the finish is as different to the original as this one, would a decent clean-up and even a re-finish cause the guitar to lose value? Is is worth more in this awful state?! :)

I've wondered whether a wet wipe would actually take away the 'patina' or if, as the seller suggests, it is actually the finish that has reacted and it is now fixed this colour. Oddly enough I quite like the colour though I am adverse to Fender basses that are a natural finish. :)

I do think it is staggering to imagine that it is actually white!

It looks like it spent a week on the wall in your shop, Uncle H. :)

A Saturday would have done if both me and Pete were in.

I'll say! That said Howard, your old white P bass never seemed too off colour!

Looking at that bass, it just looks like a health hazard. And if the club atmosphere did that to a bass, imagine the havoc it would be playing with your lungs! That said, with the general death of nitro finished basses, I doubt we'll see all that much "relicing" now anyway!

for some reason i can imagine it being really sticky, and that you could wipe away half that yellow. i have no idea why mind.

if that is just yellowing from age, its actually quite fantastic.

It could be carcinogenic. Cigarette smoke can leave " "substantial levels" of toxins on smoke-exposed material."

How by any stretch of the written word can this be described as 'good condition' even if it is 40 odd years old... :) looks like it's been dragged from a compost heap!
