Rubbish playing style, I can clearly see his left thumb isn't in line with the centre of the neck! Must do better! :)

Had the Starlicks video he had out in the 80s and played it til it died.
Much prefer him too MK or the other slappers.

If anyone has a dvd copy of said video would be v interested

Great stuff.

Here is LJ in all his Musicman glory, again with George Duke. [The Overture, and what a superb arrangement it is]
He is playing in unison [finger style] with the string lines at the end.
If you have ago at transcribing it, Watch out there is some 3/8's about! :)

Shocking!

Another example of shoddy technique here:

Can't see the young fellow in the film having much of a career with such a sloppy approach

I didn't think his Starlick series was him at his best... way too aggressive and over-driven to my mind but then that is pretty much his style. I think I have them on VHS only..if i can find them.

I think the posted videos are him at the top of his game.

Yup, and what about that Motown bloke who could only pluck with one finger. Amateurs!

There's a Bros Johnson Live Renuion concert DVD out there, filmed failrly recently. It's shocking. The mix is atrocious (you can barely hear Louis). His brother does the worst, longest, and most boring solo in one track.

Avoid at all costs.

Get On The Floor! My favorite Jacko track by a clear mile and thats thanks to Louis Johnson's monster bassline!

Louis also had a great fingerstyle sound. Solid and tastefull.

With Michael McDonald....

I have a burn of the original video on my PC, it's about 800mb & not fantastic quality.

His playing sounds fine but when he's talking it's a little muffled.

Phenomenal style - I'm watching it right now!

"now this lick is very common - everyone who slaps plays this - but not everyone can play it this fast"[/i]

I have the video somewhere - happy to 'recycle' if anyone wants it :)

PM me for details.
