steviedee
Hi while looking through the local ads I found this Michael Poller Romanian bass really, really cheap so I took a punt on it. My First impressions are it needs new strings and a setup. I thought it was going to be all laminate but I think the top is carved, I'm no expert but the grain seems to continue to the edge of the top But the idea is to string it with gut type strings and use it as a back up, advice much appreciated i hope I got a bit of a bargain here but if I didn't that's life! I've added a bunch of pics so any info advice would be appreciated Edited April 24, 2010 by steviedee
That's what I though but I can there is definitely see grain continuing on the sides of the top and in the f holes which suggests the top is carved, I'm no expert as I say and I'd be quite happy with a laminate, I'll get someone more in the know to look at it. It's badged 'Michael Poller, producator, De Vioara, Bucaresti' and they make a POLLER SCHOOL BASS Laminated front and back, medium brown varnish and a MICHAEL POLLER BASS Carved maple back and ribs, carved spruce front, medium brown varnish. I'm obviously hoping it's the latter, mind you it looks identical to this so might be a laminate. geoffbassist
Have u checked the internal side of the front with a mirror to check if there's any grain. Should clear up any doubt about the top.
steviedee
Well I haven't had the chance to take it to a luthier but got the next best thing ..... a guitar playing joiner! He said it's definitely a solid wooden top not laminate ,so I'm pretty pleased about that.
