what colour pickguard? which pickups?

i got one of those black and chrome squier precisions on saturday. ive replaced the neck with a fender one and i'm going to put either seymour duncans or di marzios in it. the novelty of a mirror scratchplate wears off pretty quickly, so I'm thinking of putting either a tort or black scratchplate on it.

this raises two questions.

1)which pickups?

2)which scratchplate?

you can see the bass on the squier site or the actual one here

No active pups! (eg EMGs!)

I'm thinking of putting a wizard thumper in one of my Precisions, but I don't have one yet, so I can't comment.
As for the pickguard a genuine fender tort will look best I reckon. Cheaper torts may look a bit, well, cheap.

ok, i'll add wizard to the poll.

what do you mean by off the shelf, are wizard custom made?

and how much do wizards cost? bartolinis are too expensive, i'm looking for something in the same general price range as the basslines and the dimarzios. £120 tops.

www.wizardpickups.co.uk

my thumper only cost £50 and i think the jazz pups go for about the same money

EDIT: the jazz pups 64's or 84's are £40 each so they're well in your budget

I'm thinking the wizard thumper and the wizard eighty four. i play punk music, so want that sort of sound, but I'm also in a classic rock band and a heavy metal band. so do you think that seems like a good combo?

1. Wizard - yes you can ring them and they will wind 'em to your spec

2. Where are you getting your Bart prices from? Thomann have ALL the Bart Ps for just over £100.....

:)

PS now you've told us what you play, I'd say you only have one option..... SD 1/4 pounder..... will give a gruff aggressive tone which is dead easy to overdrive for punk and Metal...

I voted Tort guard. There is something about a black fender with Tort guard that just says "Awesome" to me.

Couldnt skip the second bit but voted Wizard cause of all the good noise on here about them. Gonna pick a set of Jazz ones when/if I get the money.

-and it looks much better in the flesh.

The DiMarzio set with the model J (not the ultra) is my favourite for a vintage tone that I've heard.

Hear clips of the model J here.

I went for Black guard... and, DiMarzio pups. Haven't had a chance to try Quarter Pounders, but I'm pretty sure my ole 69 P Bass had Dimarzios in and they were very nice indeed.

I voted for Tort as well. I've just ordered one for my black Highway-one, should be here tomorrow.
It will be the first Tort i have owned. previously I had a black JV Squier and that had a mirror one on it. I still have the plate at home but its got a few hologram stickers on it. God, what was i on back in the 80's ;-).
voted for other in the PUP pole. I have a SD and dont really like it, not tried the others but i do like the stock fender PUP on my HW-one.
