distortion in active mode aria sb 1000

Hi all i recently bought this bass as had wanted one for ages but it has a problem when its switched to active mode it distorts really bad ,my local amp repaire guy has had a look at it and cant do much as he thinks the problem is in one of the componets that are incased in a hard black resin to stop you getting into it i spose! anyone got any ideas on where i go next with this? it sounds fine in pasive mode but would like to get the active sorted out really .

What does the active do? Is it one know sweepable boost like a Thunder 1A?

Also, classic new battery, might be a short draining it real fast.

ey up guessing you've done the obvious like changing the battery? do you have any pictures of it? the one in my bass hasn't been gooped and is quite servicable
