Moos3h
I had some GFS pickups in my P and it growled like no other. If you can wait for them to make the journey over the pond, they are a total bargain!

OutToPlayJazz
I'd be looking at either a Wizard Thumper or a Nordstrand split coil, personally.
EssentialTension
I've put Wizard 64s in my CV Jazz so I think I'd be tempted by the Wizard Thumper for a P bass. Or, a little more expensive, I like the sound of the Lindy Fralins.
Delberthot
Jason Lollar all the way for me. powerful, punchy, manly.
ezbass
Seymour Duncan SDP-1 is very nice and has a good vintage tone to it (if that's what you want of course), I have one fitted to my Road Worn and it sounds just fine
bassmansky
thanks for the ideas,no mention yet on kent armstrong hot vintage!or would'nt they be much better?i ask because they are £35.
Cat Burrito
Kent Armstrong is ok but I wouldn't upgrade with them again personally - purely because I've found better since. It depends on your budget & what you are looking for tonally. I like classic vintage tones so the Seymour Duncan SPB-1 and the Antiquity II have boosted 2 of my P-basses. Both excellent. The Antiquities are not cheap though but you might grab yourself a second hand bargain on EBay. I also recently acquired a Wizard trad for my 60s P-bass which has a lovely woody tone.
