Someone ought to do a BassChat covers book. I'd buy it.
+1!

on the subject of singers talking too much, on one of my regular gigs our singer usually walks off to take a piss halfway thru set 2, so (as EVERYONE knows it from F1) The Chain outro gets all hell jammed out of it for 5 mins...good fun, esp when me&the drummer drop down to a bouncy swing feel and leave the guitarist out alone in mid solo *sniggers*!

Does no-one do I Wish by Stevie Wonder? It's a great tune for the bass and the crowd'll know it from another blatant abuse of a classic tune by Will Smith in Wild Wild West.

'Oh what a Night' 1963
+1 on this one.

Back to the likes of 'Rockstar' everyone knows it from the telly adverts and it comes under the heading, like lots of other great songs, of 'Dadrock' and from personal experience Dads are always right!

Another good 'oldie' is 'When Tomorrow Comes' Eurhythmics

On a slightly different note, this is a vid of us (at the Dry Bar near the Barbican) doing our crowd-pleaser, Drunk at The Wake (an Ennio Morricone-inspired punk howdown, complete with whistling at the end!)

Nah, that vid was taken last year when I had a brief dalliance with a Gibson SG bass - looked cool as **** but I hated the short scale. Flogged and bought, yep, a P-bass

I thought people would just get depressed and leave.
I was as surprised as you. Give it a shot, all their songs are ridiculously simple.
Just wondered if anyone can recommend any sure-fire Motown stuff?
Anything that charted.

Have a look back through this thread, there are quite a few Motown / Stax / Atlantic suggestions.

Being in a reggae/ska band i find people most often dance to all our tunes (mainly on Sunny days though!) but tunes that command some hardcore dancefloor skankin' are:

Monkey man & 54/46 & Pressure drop - Toots & the Maytals

One step beyond - prince Buster/Madness, strangely i see lots of air sax players!

Anything by Bob Marley, but Stir it up usually does well and it makes me love the reggae bass vibe when i see dem booties shakin.

Oh, and old time classiques Like Message to you rudi, Ghost Town & the Liquidator...all a blast and easy fun on the 4 string spank machine

And one i love is I chase the devil ( I'm gonna put on an Ironshirt)...i love it when people come and say i've never heard a reggae version of that Prodigiy song....cha bumbaclot! :)

Talking of which, Tru steppaz live @ Annabels, Plymouth, By the seaside (Englands Jamaica...with shootings n all' ) Friday 26th June 9pm>>>...guranteed Punanny & riddim'

Out of Space, Prodigy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di9OBlcCiDk

But i prefer Max Romeo's live take & Lee Perry does an entertaining version too!

Oh yeah I've heard that Prodigy one before, ta.
Great groove on that rhythm.
