queenofthedepths Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Can't we just pin this? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=8172 Then people will realise we've covered the debate already
charic Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 I think thats the thread which stemmed this one
Machines Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 I'm inclined to agree - I don't feel there is a justified need for a separate forum.
metalmaniac Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 (edited) Oh man this might reignite the debate.. brothers.. sisters...cant we for once join hands and live in a happy world where basses and ERB's can play together? Edited November 18, 2007 by metalmaniac
Cantdosleepy Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007
1. Have a test forum for a couple of weeks and see if it gets used enough to warrant its existence.
Sounds reasonable to me. On the other hand, I'd never venture into the ERB area, but I do like to see them mentioned from time to time. Would ghettoising them give the ERBists a haven from Fender four wire purists, or encourage suspicion from the same?
Mickeyboro Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Bob Marley was very much in favour of the 'erb! ;-)
G-bitch Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 You can't be serious?! There are already far too many sub-forums with an eery windy sound blowing through the deserted threads!
cheddatom Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Maybe we should have an 'erb forum instead?
guitarnbass Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Hmm, should I know what ERB actually means? Cause I don't...
Cantdosleepy Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Extended Range Bass. It means the fretboard is like one of those concertina-ing boxing gloves on a stick that they have in the Beano etc.
guitarnbass Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 In that case, I think I'll vote no. LOL
ARGH Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007
Extended Range Bass. The_D Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 (edited) Sorry ARGH but I had to vote no. Dont see the point of another sub forum for all the reasons stated by other chatters. Could you not just accept that some people are Douches when they post the drivvel that has brought this on? You are trying something new and more power to you, dont get hung up on other peoples views (however misguided). Edit: I have no problem with the idea but feel you might just alienate yourself even more. Edited November 19, 2007 by The_D
MB1 Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 MB1. Could try the "The Ironing Board and Trouser Press Gazette"?......
ARGH Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 Well lets face it....lets question why I created this thread. Ive let this run a few days, and either way,I dont mind how it goes. But it proves that there IS support for seperation, which I believe or at least hope comes from a genuine interest and need felt,AND upon the flipside, acceptance, saying YES they are Bassguitars, next generation musical technology, which we want to see more of,and learn from. Which is a good thing regardless of where anyone stands.
Alpha-Dave Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Across my basses I have -2 strings (F# and and + 2 strings (C and F) in addition to E A D G, so I think I'm fairly in the zone for an ERB target forum, however I can't see the point of a dedicated forum unless all the FX, amps, basses, theory etc. are duplicated, and I think they serve ok, so I voted no.
ARGH Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 I accept clear defeat.... But a fab loss all the same!
queenofthedepths Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007
I can't see the point of a dedicated forum unless all the FX, amps, basses, theory etc. are duplicated
I'd be in favour of an ERB sub-forum in the gear section, just like the double bass one...

I voted no to starting up an ERB section in this forum because I don't think it's busy enough here to warrant it.
Kiwi Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007
I accept clear defeat....
Oh I wouldn't say defeat necessarily. You've attracted a lot of attention to yourself, as usual.
Kiwi Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 A simple demand for the public to see, & to those in charge of Basschat
Seemed a reasonable question to ask.
Hmmm. ARGH in the future if you have an idea, and you would like "those in charge of Basschat" to offer their full support, its probably a good idea to discuss it with them.
