Musicman20 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I think it's a good idea to keep this bass in their catalogue! Is this officially released or incoming? Quote

chriswilliams666 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 It isn't different. I think i might have to get one. Although any news on a new UK distributor? chriswilliams666 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Just noticed GuitarGuitar have taken it on.
It isn't different. I think i might have to get one. Although any news on a new UK distributor?
Quote
Musicman20 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 (edited) Something about the bottom horn doesn't look right but that's probably just the mockup. Guitarguitar were not very helpful on the Lakland front, and wouldn't order in anything else. They also said the weight of the JO5 I tried was high because the wood was 'such high quality'. A retailer as a sole distributor is not a good thing usually. Edited May 5, 2010 by Musicman20 Quote

Check the upper horn. The former Chief Operations Officer (John Pirruccello) is now the Chief Executive Officer - so although Dan Lakin has gone I expect it's pretty much business as usual. chriswilliams666 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I work at a Former-Lakland Dealer. The distributor Headline (PRS) are no longer doing it, and looking at the Lakland site it says GuitarGuitar are the new distributor. And they have LOADS in stock! I didn't quite understand. Quote
OutToPlayJazz Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 If the new top horn shape on this mock-up is correct to what they'll actually produce, I think it'll be a really nice looking bass. Almost classic J with a slight modern twist Quote

Oh Goodie!
Probably... I have nothing against them, but they arent bass specialists so in my eyes its a bad idea to have them being the sole stockists. Ive discussed this before with JTUK on here; usually one sole distributor leads to chaotic high pricing. I have bought a fair few bits from them before, but they dont understand the fact that some basses can be wonderful, and some can be undesirable, depending on whether the manufacturer got it right with that instrument. Therefore, they tend to refuse ordering another in. Quote
Musicman20 Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I was wrong, but close...its the top horn as stated above. Yep, it doesnt look right. I hope and imagine they have tested for balance...we shall see. My instinct is that the original Lakland DJ is more desirable. Quote
dave_bass5 Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 You got your order in for the 5 string yet Gareth lol. This complicates things a bit doesn't it? Quote

It took me a while, and I had to wait to be able to test, but the EB neck and B does work for me, (THANKFULLY!). Quote

RussFM Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Looks much nicer, I never liked that extended top horn Quote
dave_bass5 Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I prfer the old style myself. I don't like how the paint on the headstock finishes before the nut. It looks more like my Ray34. Maybe Lakland are using the cheaper side of the Cort factory now ;-) Quote

It also hasnt got that slight boutique factor to it, (despite the fact they were made in substantial numbers). Quote
funkle Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 (edited) Think I prefer the DJ shape too. Is this going to be alder, or ash-bodied? Edited May 15, 2010 by funkle Quote

My 44-01's fretboard does this and as far as I know, other basses like the Joe Osborn does too. I actually prefer the new shape including the new headstock! Quote

I was just typing from memory BUT look at where the paint starts on the New Bass, its much earlier than the old one. On the lakland's the paint starts at the end of the neck, at the point where the headstock starts. I guess it could be just that its a mock up i guess. Quote
Musicman20 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 The DJ was still much nicer! I very much doubt these new basses will hold that Lakland magic now everything is all change. Quote
