Bigwan
Hotness! Would love to try a Dingwall with a wenge neck at some point.
Bearfist
I love them, il be honest i got my first one with a Wenge neck purely because i thought it looked cool. But having had a few now, some with Wenge and some Maple i'm definitely a big fan of the feel and tone.
Absolutely, I have had Maple, Walnut and Wenge necked Dingwalls and the Wenge necks are superior in feel and tone for me. The walnut wasn't too far off, the maple sounds too clinical. Dazed
I'm getting drawn into Dingwall GAS of late and doing a bit of research into different 5 string models. On the older models they have non neo FD3s that are squared off. Are these the same size as the later FD3n that come on The NG2 and Combustion ? Does anyone have a list of the different pick up dimensions ? Is there enough space to retro fit a 3rd pick up on an ABII? Can a bass with the square shape pickups be modded to take the later rounded shape? Has anyone had a passive version and then had it modified for the battery compartment? Did it need to go back to Dingwall for this? Thanks for looking Edited January 20, 2017 by Dazed

Dazed
I did a bit of a trawl on the Dingwall site but didn't find the info. Sheldon seemed reluctant to give the dimensions on a couple of threads of people asking the same questions.

Kev
Quoting Doods for sale thread the rounded end FD3's are 104mmx32mmx19mm HxWxD
Regarding the third pickup, I believe one will fit, but the issue you will have is that the routes are not parallel on the 2X models, whereas they of course are on the 3X. I think modding without installing a scratch plate would probably not work as there will be extra routing from the adjusted angle of one of the existing pickups. If its the bridge pickup that needs adjusting it may work, but I imagine there would still be gaps. I have never been tempted, mainly because the setting I use (both pickups in series, with their coils in series) is not a setting on the default wiring of a 3X dingwall switch. I enjoy the bridge-middle in series when I have tried it, but it doesn't have the same umph for me. Regarding Battery route, the main guy in Cov that services and modifies Dingwalls for Bass Direct does not route the battery compartment. I imagine it would need to go to Canada for that to be done properly. I had mine converted to Active and didn't worry about the battery compartment. The preamp switches to passive if the worse case scenario happens and I don't have a screwdriver, but I have been using mine with the same battery for almost 12 months now (4 hours or so a week) with no issues, thats with the Darkglass preamp. nickmew
My much loved and well gigged AB I. Currently in the for sale forum in a probably misguided attempt to raise some cash. nickmew
It arrived unreserved into Bass Direct. It was just tooo gorgeous, and I've traded out three other basses including my rather fabulous flame-top AB1 for it. But no regrets at all...
