Si600 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Can I put my Magna Series in here, or are they the lesser Aria Pro IIs and not allowed? Quote
police squad Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 here's my SB-R150. According to serial number, starts with 1, it must be 1981. I've read they were only made 83/84. Anyhow, plays itself. Quote
White Cloud Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014
Here's my much abused Aria: It's the second bass I ever bought. Part-ex'd an Aria Cardinal bass, a flanger and a vesta fire distortion +£80 for it in 1989. I'm considering getting it restored back to how it should be. Just need to find someone who can do it.
That is a very cool bass! Quote
el borracho Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I was tempted recently by this one on ebay - but not at £600 + carriage + import duties! Quote
Why not? It is far superior to a great many basses which sell at that price. Very unusual too. I would say that it was worth it. Quote
el borracho Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Because I don't have that sort of money these days. Quote

martthebass Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 I keep thinking about one of these.....however I suppose it'd be a bit of an overindulgence seeing as we only do one DD cover! Quote

bartelby Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Well the original pickup in my SB Elite finally died, the output of one half is much quieter than the other. So I after spending a while looking on the internet about replacements I decided to Frankenstein it a bit more, but this time it's reversible. I borrowed a pickup from my Dean bass: Whilst I was at it I borrowed the active preamp too Wired it all back as a single output and this thing sounds like a monster! I need to attenuate the Model One's output as it's overdriving the preamp when run full on. But mixed about 70:30 (Dean P/up : Dimarzio) it's bloody awesome. I managed to get the original Aria p/up out of it's casing, so now I'm going to see if I can find something to put in there. So it'll look a bit neater. But I think I may stick with it being active once I return the Dean parts to their donor bass Quote
Bloodaxe Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014
I managed to get the original Aria p/up out of it's casing,
How did you manage that? Enquiring minds need to know. Don't bin the original bobbin just yet though... I'm attempting to rehabilitate the original pickup from my SB-1000. It's soaking in a jar of Dichloromethane at the moment & that seems to be softening the epoxy resin to the extent that it can be dug out with either a screwdriver tip or one of those wooden coffee stirrers. Initial results suggest that it'll be recoverable, but I'll report back either way. Pete. Quote
bartelby Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Bowl of boiling water for 10 mins. Slid a Stanley knife blade between the epoxy and the case. Then slowly pulled the pickup out. Haven't thought about how to tackle the resin, just yet Quote

neilp Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 My 1980 SB1000, the nicest fretted bass I've ever owned Quote
bartelby Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Well the restoration of my SB Elite is 1/2 way through. All the hacked in cavities have been filled, new machine heads, Armstrong pickup, switch, knobs, strap buttons and output socket. A lovely new rosewood trussed cover, a la Cliff Burton. The luthier did a nice neat job of all the hacking I did many years back. There now comes a long pause in the process while I save money for a total refinish. I'm going to have it refinished in black. And I need to find somewhere to replate the bridge. Quote
TrevorR Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Here is my lovely SB700 from 1983. It was my first ever bass, bought for me by my mum and dad for my 18th birthday. Still love it, even if it doesn't get out much any more... Quote
I wouldnt bother with the replating the bridge. just polish it to death to remove whatever plating was on there and you will get back to the brass. when brass is polished properly it looks better than any gold finish I have ever seen... will post a photo of the brass bridge on my 1980 Vantage that I polished myself to give you an idea Quote
FlatEric Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Sitting eating my lunch at work, so no chance of checking this out, so could be completely wrong but. . . . I'm pretty sure the base is die cast and the material is not brass? Perhaps have a look underneath before 'avin' a go. As I said, could be wrong. . . . Mmmm this cheese salad cob is nice!!! Quote
