I've seen these things in the passing and since I now have a jazz for the first time in ages was wondering if anyone had ever tried one of these before

An Audere or East Retro would be lovely but they cost about the same as the bass they'd be going into.

I've also thought about installing an active system either built into the pickups or a separate preamp but am having trouble locating one that will fit into the existing control cavity. i do remember that EMG used to do a JV model that was reviewed in Bassist magazine years ago but don't know if the JV model they do now is the same as it appears to have separate gubbins

I've got one, with a series/parrallel switch, not installed yet as it's for a jazz project. They are very well built and look easy to install. I can't wait to hear it though with the fender custom shop 60s pickups I have.

I've decided to start with a basic mod first by installing a series/parallel switch

I've been a fan of P basses for a while and from what I have been reading, this changes the sound to a fairly close approximation

I also have a Redeemer in both of my Jazz 5's.......................it really does work.

I have a Bartolini booster pre-amp (can't remember the model number) in my MIM jazz V.
I find it brings the volume up nicely to the level of other active basses i use, with a slight bass & treble boost, really rounding the tone off nicely. That fits directly in the original routing space along with the required 9v battery.
With the tone control at 10, i can get that 'classic' Marcus slappy jazz sound but rolling the tone back doesn't make too much difference 'til about 3/4 when the 'mud' sets in. It could be more of a tone pot/resistance 'thing' i suppose but i can live with it, when i need that JB tone.
