marshallman
Hi all, I am a newbie here so be gentle lol. Anyways, I have a few effects going on in my rig but I think i need a compressor to level out these effects. I am using a Marshall DBS7400 head which does have a built in compressor but it is rubbish (everything about the amp is amazing but the compressor). So my question is, can I add a 'lets say alesis 3630' rack compressor to my rig so I can squeeze my sounds without compromising on my tone at all, because I do love the Marshall. Do these compressors suck any tone out at all, or can anyone recommend a decent 'affordable' compressor. Many thanks in advance
Mr. Foxen
Does your amp have an effects loop? Rack stuff generally has to go in one as they need the signal level that's already been through your preamp (the knobs part of an amp). The 3630 is very cheap and has a good rep for bass, but try and score a DBX one, they come up for not much more, and are really good. "Golden-Ears" JoeGarcia reccomends them over the Alesis ones for being uncoloured. Really, if you are a newbie player (not necessarily advice to you, but I kind of want to say it in every compressor thread that new people might read), should probably avoid the compressor and work on playing consistently, rather than compensating for inconsistent technique with effects.
