patch006
Hi all, Thought I would show you a few pic's of the bass my uncle made me when I was 16 years young , one very lucky terrible bass player!!! It was my second bass (first being a hondo!) I spent all year working part time jobs to buy the bits for it as he was making it. It was his one and only bass he made. I hope you agree she is a beauty!!! This is one bass that will never leave me! Mahogany body with flame maple top Maple neck, gold hardware with emg pick ups ( later mod) volume pot, stacked bass and treble active electronic boost, and a pan pot for between the two pickups. Tabbacco sunburst also on the back of the neck which is a great touch, laquar now pretty worn after 15 years of trying to play!! As you can see, i'm not too hot with the camera! Golchen
Looks very well made indeed! My dad could make an excellent guitar, I'm sure. He has an engineering background and is brilliant with all forms of woodwork and metalwork. He has a couple of books on building acoustic guitars but he's never got around to it. patch006
Yeah he made quite a few other guitars, did the proper luithiers courses etc done repair/ servicing work for some quite big names.. There are some great touches like the clear laquer binding and the seemless neck joint. I now have a few other basses but still go back to this and take her out every now and again to rehersals. lozbass
Marvellous - such an individual and unique instrument. It looks to be very well constructed too - I love stuff like this
littleal
Love the shape & the contouring, it looks expensive.
budget bassist
Lovely looking bass, shame he didn't make more! By the way, don't know if you'd noticed, but you've put right handed pickups in there by mistake
Happy Jack
Had a loft, did he, your uncle? Nice bass though.
Shaggy
Really classy - love the "flower" MOP fret markers too! What did he use as template / inspiration?
budget bassist
Lesson learned!! I bought the pick ups a couple of years later second hand the guy said it would be fine to put in. having no idea about the obvious difference i had them put in by someone else that equally had no idea!! Have never even thought about it, has a bloody great G string sound!!!! You live and learn! off to buy new pick ups tomorrow!!
i actally thought you were playing along in the PM, i was joking mate! It shouldn't make any difference at all, but thanks for brightening up my day! EDIT: i'm not even sure you can buy left handed pickups Edited May 10, 2010 by budget bassist
