Here a video of Final Fantasy VII piece "Those who fight further", played on viola da gamba, 8 strings and fretless basses.

feedbacks and suggestions are welcome

Just one little thing: if you already heard the original version and the Black Mages one, you will find that this version is quiter and not so "strong" as the others...

For two reason I choose a less strong playing:

a) This is one of six pieces that I played from Nobuo Uematsu in my new album, in "Ponzini plays Uematsu" section, and this one is the only with electric bass. The other ones are played in chamber music style. So, I didn't want too much difference, even if here you have electric sounds.

:) As I love the original and Black Mages versions, I wanted a totally different "reading" of the piece, just to point out a different mood.

I'm a massive fan of Uematsu, especially the FF7 soundtrack. This was good, exceptional playing from the chap on the right. The guy in the middle, what's he got in his right hand?

Jam,

thank you very much. I'm so happy that you liked this version.
All Ponzini plays Uematsu features also:
1) Promised Land (Final Fantasy VII Advent Children)
2) Those who fight (Final Fantasy VII)
3) Music Box (Final Fantasy V)
4) Ronfaure (Final Fantasy XI)
5) Those who fight further (Final Fantasy VII)
6) Rose of May (Final Fantasy IX)

In the center I use a plastic pen on the strings to obtain a dulcimer effect and a more percussive sound.
On the right I play a six strings Viola da Gamba :)

Thank you so much!

To be honest, it didn't work for me. It just sounded like it had had all the punch and dynamics sucked out of it. Although the original is a fantastic piece, its just not working in this context for me, perhaps because the original is so iconic to me!

I also love this much underrated tune!
