Kempy535 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I have a red jazz special and a black power special. Will get photos up later but they are both great basses and I love them Quote
Nostromo Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 (edited) I love the Made in Japan JBS's and the PJBS's . . . . . and I am proud to say I have one of each ! . . . see sig below. Does anyone know the history of why some examples of these models have got varnished maple necks whilst others have got Black painted necks ? ? (the back of the necks I mean not the Headstocks). Both my JBS & PJBS have got maple necks, but a mate of mine has got a JBS with the black painted neck and I used to have a power version with the black neck myself many years ago (another one I should never have sold ! . . . . . . .) My mate reckons its because the UK / Europe ones were imported with Maple necks whilst the USA ones were done with the Black painted neck job ? . . . . Does anyone know if thats right ? ? Cheers ps . . . . the new Duff model by Fender has got a considerably wider nut than the 80's originals so beware before you order one of those . . . the current Duff model neck is more like a P Bass neck than a Jazz neck . . . Dood Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 I've been offered a refinish on the body of my red PJBS.. I'm tempted but then there's the problem of choosing black or that pearly white! Quote

Ethers Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Fellas, Hipshot say BT10 is the code for general Fender Japan bass tuner extender. I've emailed them if that applies to 1980s Jazz Special as it seems a stretch that it covers all across the years. While I'm waiting has anyone put one on a 1980s Jazz Special? I just put one on my bitsa Jazz and now must have one on this bass as its become my favourite. Quote

Clarky72 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) I'll get some pics of my pair up soon, a black and a white from '85. Edited June 3, 2012 by Clarky72 Quote
gafbass02 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Aw man. My first proper bass was a pearl white jbs. This is making me want another! Quote
Clarky72 Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 My pair, both from 1985. The white one has new pickups. A SD Hot Stack at the bridge and a Fender P'62 at the neck. Quote
EdwardHimself Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012
My pair, both from 1985. The white one has new pickups. A SD Hot Stack at the bridge and a Fender P'62 at the neck.
gr8 combo! Quote
Clarky72 Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Thanks mate! The black one started life fretless until I modified it (or as SiBob says, I butchered it), and the white one used to a hideous metallic green! Quote
Dood Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Seeing this thread resurrected has me grabbing my red PJBS off the hook for a quite shred! Ahhhh, Such a cool bass. Quote
didle Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I've waited so long to join this club! Here are my girls: A Duff sig and an 85' JS that arrived from the US on Thursday. Considering she's 28 years old I'm really happy with the condition.. Everythings working and the paintwork only has a couple of chips. Quote
